Confused!

I hope this is the right place to post this, its a question regarding the Pill.
I’m going aborad next week and my dr was trying to figiure out for me what time i should take it there. i take it here each evening and and my flight will land abroad in the morning around 8am, she told me to take it at this time, but in gmt time, it’ll be 4am here which means about 8 hours will have passed since i last took it! And as there are 24 hours between each pill, her advice of taking it at 8am abroad time doesnt make much sense to me. Agh i hope this actually makes sense cos its got me v.confused. i’d really appreciate some help on this from anyone who knows about the pill!

Re: Confused!

I would say otherwise but I didnt go to school for ever like that Doctor did. Maybe she knows something that you and I dont. I would go by what she says.

Re: Confused!

do u really need to take it each day ??

Re: Confused!

yes you need to take it each day unless you want to get pregnant!

i'd say you're right, stick to your 24 hour schedule and take it 24 hours later. 8 hours apart is not that much time between pills and it might make you feel slightly nauseous.

Re: Confused!

agh i hate the pill

Re: Confused!

i am just glad i dont have to worry abt pills

Re: Confused!

there are much worse alternatives around... why do you hate the pill?

Re: Confused!

Continue to take it at the same time you take at your current place in the plane as well. Still continue to take one more pill at the same time (as per your old location) once you arrive in your new location. After the first pill take the next pill in the evening in the new location and continue to do so. It will be less than 24 hrs between 2 pills.

Re: Confused!

i don't see how travel affects the pill's effectiveness. so long as the time taken between the two is the same, there shouldn't be any need to take the one in the morning on the day you arrive. you haven't fast forwarded your body and its functions during your travel... i mean, you've moved across time zones, but 24 hours to your body is still 24 hours. does that make sense?

Re: Confused!

ok so there is a 4 hr time difference based on what you posted....the place you are going is 4 hrs ahead ...no?

so say you take your pill at 6pm everyday......when you get to your destination take it at 10 pm (for your body it's the same time...right?) ....this way you can continue taking it at the same time every day without having to change the timing. Get what I am saying?

Re: Confused!

yeah the 24 hours between each one makes sense, so will take it when those 24 hours have passed, though the doccie said 8am cos then there'd be less than 12 hours between it and the last one, but that makes more sense for someone who had forgotten to take her last pill......right?! the dr did take ages to come to the conclusion of taking it at 8am, so me guessing maths isnt really her strong point lol.

Re: Confused!

Take it after lunch each day.

Re: Confused!

i take it before i go to bed each night. that way, if theres any side effects like mild nausea, i dont feel 'em!

Re: Confused!

Here is my advice:

I always wear my watch and when we go on holiday, i dont change the time. The time is always gmt. So say for example, you take your pill at 11am each morning in UK and you are going to Pakistan. You already took it before the flight. You jst got to Pak and its 8pm there. That means according to your watch its 3pm on ur watch. When its the next day in Pak say 10am, it will be 5am on ur watch. As sn as ur watch gets to 11am, take ur pill. You will be taking it according to your uk time and wont get urself confused! It works all the time for me AH.

Re: Confused!

That sounds like a brill idea :) i was thinking that i wouldnt bother changing the time on my watch, at least for the first few days anyway, so i'll keep it to gmt time, thanks :) and thanks to all for replying :)

Re: Confused!

:disgust:

i dont understand wots the need to take the pill allll the time?..u going abroad with ur hubby or sumthing?..that u cant wait till u get back?..?

Re: Confused!

that is why i never took the pill....i was on patch but it was aslo not good for me....sorry cant help...ill say do what doc is recommending

Re: Confused!

I agree with Aashi, will it really matter if you miss the pill for a day or 2 and just start taking it again once you reach your destination?

Re: Confused!

Ok my question..
Do u have to take pills even if u don’t do anything? :konfused: cause now if ur in holidays and ur spouse is away.. why would u still need to take the pills?

Sorry guys reading this thread made me doubtful about the knowledge i gained from high school health class :frowning:

Re: Confused!

if you stop taking your pill even for a couple of days, the chances of getting pregnant go up because its not as effective anymore. in order for the pill to work, i.e. be 98.5% effective, you HAVE to take it at roughly the same time every single day (and even better to take it at the exact same time every day) that you aren't having your period-- i.e. for three weeks continuously, and one week off when you have your period.
this is because there is a certain dose of hormones contained in each pill that adds up to a specific quantity that stops you from getting pregnant. if you miss a pill or two pills, the overall quantity is lower and then if you go ahead and get jiggy wit' it, you're playing roulette, and if you're not ready for a kid, you really, really can't come on GS and cry about being "surprised" with your pregnancy :p
and so yes, you should take it even if you're not up to anything with your hubs on the offchance that you do get busy.
and in my experience, most of the combination pills these days, that combine low levels of two hormones, like Yasmin, are such that if you stop for a few days, your period will start up again which sucks.

also, princess fi, i think you especially need to stick to your pills, cos as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder, and if your hubs is away and he comes back, you will most likely get down, and then you know what, if you're not on the pill, you could get preggo.
