**Including the Superdome and all shelters. That city is toast. **

**BATON ROUGE, La. Aug 30, 2005 **— With water rising in the streets of New Orleans and conditions rapidly deteriorating, Gov. Kathleen Blanco said Tuesday that the tens of thousands of people now huddled in the Superdome and other rescue centers would have to be evacuated.
“The situation is untenable,” Blanco said at a news conference. “It’s just heartbreaking.”
Because of two levees that broke Tuesday, the city was rapidly filling with water, the governor said. She also said the power could be out for a long time, and the storm broke a major water main, leaving the city without drinkable water.
Re: Complete Evacuation ordered for entire city of New Orleans
What an idea!
Apparently they didn't have a system setup that could move people out who themselves don't have the means to do so. Just wait until after the disaster that way the Fed's take on the cost of such a operation.
Re: Complete Evacuation ordered for entire city of New Orleans
perhaps they should call back some of the troops back from HiraaaK, who are busy as bees fighting Ale KeeDa ... their services are more required in New Orleans rather than BagDad
Re: Complete Evacuation ordered for entire city of New Orleans
I know there are other cities too that are below sea level (like Amsterdam), however, for an area that is prone to hurricanes, to build an entire city below sea level, and rely on levees does not seem like such a bright idea. It was not so much as the hurricane that did the damage but the water that came in from breach of levees due to the fact that city is below sea level.
I don't know what their long term plans are for New Orleans, but they probably should think ahead before spending billions building up the city again, and risking same kind of destruction in the next wave of hurricanes. Call it New*er *Orleans, or something.
Re: Complete Evacuation ordered for entire city of New Orleans
well in the uk we have very little land that peopleare prepared to make houses on....and each time there is a surge in house prices companies will go out and buy areas of land that are prone to flooding or drain a bit by the sea and build upon it
and when it eventually floods or like the brighton marina sinks into the the ground at a rate of a few cm a year they have taken the money and gone.
as for your hurricane and low land probs...perhaps the weather wasnt as severe years ago when the city was formed
perhaps we ought to take a look at why weather patterns are changing and get that MAN to sign that treaty
it'd be a start
and then we can go and put some tape over that hole in the sky and stap wasting the worlds resources
Re: Complete Evacuation ordered for entire city of New Orleans
Take a look at some of the pics while evacuation was taking place. Cars were lined up bumper to bumper on the highways in lanes that went out of the city. What i dont understand is.. the lanes going into the city.. they were all empty.. i mean why the hell not dedicate all the lanes (coming and going) to outgoing traffic? You could see like 1 or 2 cars for miles using the inbound lanes (probably forgot something).
Re: Complete Evacuation ordered for entire city of New Orleans
I saw all that one TV like houses flooded to the top :(
and then I saw their governor talk, man she looks stressed. Poor woman. I really don't think she knows what she's doing, she's all "I strongly suggest you pray....."
Re: Complete Evacuation ordered for entire city of New Orleans
How is that a reason? …and you never answered me..are we talking about the same Pink Panther films here? The old school ones, starring Peter Sellers. If you ARE a fan of those, man I’d cling on to you and never let go . You’z be ma soulmate.
Re: Complete Evacuation ordered for entire city of New Orleans
I’m not so, Sounds like the entire city is going to be wiped out and the cost of rebuilding a whole city would be massive and the risk of it happening again makes it a very risky investment.
