New Orleans has been around for hundreds of years with a very rich tradition and history - more so probably than any other US city. Why it may make sense in a logical world, there is no way they are going to abandon the land and landmarks that are New Orleans.

The landmarks, they are being wiped out. Unfortunately I believe the number of dead is going to shock the country.

I agree. I'm not saying thats the way it should be, but the way it is.
If it was the way it should be, we wouldn't have a president who just spent a month on vacation interspersed with photo ops in red states while everything is going to hell in a handbasket.

Take a look at some of the pics while evacuation was taking place. Cars were lined up bumper to bumper on the highways in lanes that went out of the city. What i dont understand is.. the lanes going into the city.. they were all empty.. i mean why the hell not dedicate all the lanes (coming and going) to outgoing traffic? You could see like 1 or 2 cars for miles using the inbound lanes (probably forgot something).

No kidding, New Orleans deserved a hell of a lot more attention that it’s gotten from vacation boy. He slated to cut funds for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in N.O. which helps hand out major hurricane and flood protection projects (they were cut). I mean what President cut’s funding off to an organization that deals with Hurricanes when scientists are saying that the like hood of devastating Hurricanes is increasing, wtf??

Lets not get into a political bashing game here. Hurricanes, like floods, are natural disasters; and I am sure with the extent of damage, more funds will flow. Its like the Asian Tsunami, where it is a gradual build up of funds and rescue activity.

Coming back to my previous post, I think utd got the point. We are not talking about moving cities arbitrarily just because they are prone to natural disasters. In this case, the city of New Orleans is extensively damaged, and God knows, once the water is finally pumped out, what kind of issues will surface in the flooded locations. On top of that, the city infrastructure is in very bad shape right now and will require a huge investment to rebuild. Question is, building the entire thing again in a below-the-sea-level location, protected by levees, in a hurricane region makes logical sense or not?

they bury their dead, use buckets to empy out the muddy slush from their homes, and get a hammer and nails and put the roof, walls and windows up again.

I know you suffixed it with a :P, however, if a similar disaster happens in Iran or Bangladesh, we’d call it “aazmaish” for God fearing people. Whichever way you slice it, a lot of people have suffered losses, and to mock them further by insensitive comments, demeans our status as “ashraf-ul-makhlooqaat”.
