The Quran is definitely the ultimate book of guidance for all of us. Hadith only elaborates and simplifies the subtle ‘ahkamaat’ given by Allah. Allah says

**“O mankind! Verily, there has come to you the Messenger (Muhammad) with the truth from your Rabb (Sustainer). So believe in him, it is better for you. But if you disbelieve, then certainly to Allâh belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. And Allâh is Ever All-Knowing, All-Wise.” (Quran 4: 170)

“O you who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger (Muhammad) and render not vain your deeds.” (Quran 47: 33)

**This clearly emphasizes the importance of Hadith and Sunnah in our lives. What we could try to do is that at least follow all the Sahih hadith and believe in them. Especially those reported by the immediate Companions of Prophet Muhammad SAW. As for all za’eef hadith if they contradict the Quran and Sunnah they should not hold any merit.

But IMO..Quran and Hadith both go together. Hadith and SUnnah are just the practical application of Quranic teachings. Thirdly our own ‘qiyaas’ too should play a major role in reaching various decisions of our lives too.

I have no problem with that , but many ahadees are very hard for me to swallow from even those saha sitta , from figah jafaria and what not. I will give more credence to hadees from figah jafaria because they come from ahle bait but even in that compilation I find many ahadees which do not appeal to my common sense. It is not a critique of any book of hadees , it is an expression of how I feel. I might be wrong. We will find that out on the day of judgement .
