I am also more familiar with Khuda Hafiz. Both are fine though. My Pakistani and also Indian friend living in India friend said to me conservative Pakistanis/Indians say Allah Hafiz because they want to appear more Arabic and distance themselves frm their South Asian roots but liberals often say Khuda Hafiz because they are more open to emphasising south Asian background. Not sure how common that is but I have heard only Khuda Hafiz here in Aus. It is also a reason why ramazan has become ramadhan. I guess it shouldn’t matter. Or Setambur vs September. What about the original Urdu greeting “Allah Nighiban” why has not that taken off?

i don’t think so…most Indian Muslims, including myself, say Allah Haafiz because it’s more appropriate and in line with the language of Qur’aan…Allah is more suited from religion pov.

btw, i do NOT consider myself closer to Arabs…i’m proud to be Indian and i’ll never hide my identity.
