Haleem is more of a speciality of Karachi although it is available all over panjab.

I don't put chickpeas in my fruit chaat, nor do I eat haleem with naan/roti. Haleem is a complete meal on its own.
Re: Common Eating habits in Punjabis
They make white rice and teen-daal wali daal and eat it with dahi and kachumar at least once a week!
I think you were thinking of payay not haleem, thats as punjabi as it gets!
Re: Common Eating habits in Punjabis
they eat tons of payaz (onion) with their salan roti meal...
Re: Common Eating habits in Punjabis
Im punjabi and we don't put chick peas in our fruit chaat...eww totally a misfit with the fruit. As for the haleem yes we eat it with roti/naan.... I mean what else would you eat it with? I have tried it on rice but not a very good combo...how do you eat your haleem?
Re: Common Eating habits in Punjabis

Re: Common Eating habits in Punjabis
have you actually ever been to panjab? panjabis mix chcick peas with fruits very often, and sprinkle black/red peper on them making a very disgusting dish.
Panjabis also have some of the most vilest eating habbits out their, and bad food manners. I remeber being in pindi and meeting a guy who had a window making shop. Well when i went there he was eating lunch, and he got up to shake my hand, well the guy still had "salan" on his hands(and he knew it) but he shook my hand anyways, and getting his grease all over my hands. YUCK!
and another way to spot a punjabi is that if they are eating rice, they prefer to eat it out of their hands, even if there is a spoon right next to them.

Re: Common Eating habits in Punjabis
Never had chick peas in fruit chat .. maybe at someone else house but yeah I eat haleem with roti or nan. What else are you suppose to eat it with? Chawal? Thats like ruining haleem.
Re: Common Eating habits in Punjabis
Well then all I can say is mix up with educated punjabis. A man is known by the company he keeps.
Re: Common Eating habits in Punjabis
^^ Im not a a Panjabi bro
Re: Common Eating habits in Punjabis
Punjab has the best food... Punjabiz eat GOOD food, simple as that. Agar channey daley yah na dallain tu is me kya khujli hai, youre just trying to put them down, and your example of a guy shaking your hand with salan to prove all Punjabiz are vile is idiotic too. Its tradition to eat rice using their hands, nothing wrong with that, I dont do it, but then again I dont think its 'disguesting' either, no different from eating 'roti' from your hands.
Re: Common Eating habits in Punjabis
A week ago my mom made fruit chaaat and she put chickpeas in it
