You are not following. You are still stuck with the equation "money = opportunity", which is a wrong basis altogether. Money may solve problems, money may even be the reason why we are looking for opportunities but to say that it is the be-all and end-all just doesn't make sense.
Re: comment please
Its the same story of “what will I get once I get it”
Re: comment please

Next time try saying "But its YOU that we're talking about", and see the reaction.
Re: comment please
Greed!
Re: comment please
tofi ill try but im sure it will in the end come down to the guy wanting money for the ipod. as sweetie-pie says, unfortunately thats mostly everything to people.
Re: comment please
Haven't you ever heard anyone saying, "... and I tried to offer him money, but he wouldn't budge. But then I gave him a huge smile..."
Re: comment please
not really. can i move to where you live?
i thought new york was a more hostile place
Re: comment please
money is the nicest thing in the world. i dream of money every day while cycling to work. i would betray all of you for a nice car, i dont mind if you call me insect after that. insect is less offensive to me than say "hippo"
Pleasure is all that we seek, gratification is hardly an option, Life is fast even on a bike.
Re: comment please
Haha, its not about where one lives. What happens is once we make up our minds that having a certain thing (or lacking of) is what's going to solve our problems then the rest of the options dim down. Once we have that thing we realize that it did nothing and then we look for the next thing that would be solution. This reminds me of the story of this olympic gold medalist who practiced to win that medal her whole life and once she had it she didn't know what to do.
Re: comment please

yaar i was in the thread for a lark, clearly you're serious here.
since you spent time writing that i'll get serious too. i think any idea/belief system/mantra is inevitably just a way to justify who you are. i think money is important. if you have it you'll tend to have nicer things.
sure it isnt everything. and sure we wont be satisfied with money. but its naive to think people who struggle to get by are just as happy on average as those who dont.
rahi baat other things ki, its all about how you explain your circumstances to yourself. its all about the narrative you want about your life. thats it. if someday you are happy as just a dissipated billionnaire then i assure you you wont feel the need to better yourself in other ways.
overall, it doesnt matter. if you're happy being oppurtunistic or if you're happy being a peace corps worker, whatever ideas you use to rationalize who you are will be exactly that. ideas. in your head. about yourself. in real terms, a millionnaire will die just as meaningfully as a peace corps worker, the meaning that dies with him, in his head, a distraction from more concrete things that go with you too.
so why bother with any of these self management techniques. you know who you are.
Re: comment please
To all who keep saying "money isnt everything" all i ask for is an opportunity to prove it.
Re: comment please
I guess it is better to be a depressed rich than be a depressed poor, for the former there's always "retail therapy"
Re: comment please
