It happens everywhere...just have a look at the Far East, according to people in China, Japan, Korea fair = beautiful as well. I'd say their whitening industry was bigger than the ones in India/Pakistan. Big skincare companies like Clinique and Shiseido make whitening products that are specifically sold in the Far East because they know it'll sell there. The black community in America use bleaching creams as well. White people use fake tan, lie under sunbeds at the risk of developing skin cancer...heck they're even resorting to injections that increase melanin production now. This obsession with skin colour really isn't just limited to desis.
Every place in the world has an 'ideal' of beauty and people will do anything/spend anything to achieve it. Just get over it and learn to love your own skin colour because you're stuck with it for the rest of your life.
There are injections that whiten skin as well.. am surprised desis haven't taken to it as much as ppl in the Far East..

^No way...that's the first time I'm hearing this. Is it something you'd have to continuously upkeep? I imagine you'd have to get more than just your face done...otherwise it would look odd with a chitta face and a tan body, LOL. Sounds kinda scary.
Re: Colour
^ It's really popular over in the Phillipines, Thailand, places like that.. The hospitals do a course of injections over several weeks then the effects last quite a while then when the person feels as tho they're browning up again they just go back for more.. cos it goes into the bloodstream it's a whole body effect.. like I said I'm surprised it's not done (or not at least commonly) in Pakistan and India, I reckon the doctors would make a killing..
Re: Colour
^ Wow, first time I'm hearing that too..chitta face and tanned body does sound scary. If that's all it does, might as well just cake it up instead of spending so much on injections.
^ Not 100% sure but I think it does the body and face..
Re: Colour
I'm waiting to hear what'll be next!!! Jeez!
Crazy people… Aren’t they scared about side effects?

Debba’s post:
People who arent happy with what God has given them are…
I've never heard of the whitening injections before but I've just read up on them. Apparently it involves injecting glutathione into the bloodstream. Now, glutathione is a really important antioxidant that the body produces to remove free radicals from the body, but an excess of gluatathione has been linked to having adverse effects on liver function.
Also, these injections would have to be administered by a qualified practioner at a reputable clinic. Apparently there are a lot of 'fake' glutathione injections available in the Far Eastern market which have had serious consequences such as organ failure.

I would never bother with skin lightening/whitening but being honest I don’t think it’s fair to judge those who do.. It’s a bit two-faced to say they’re insecure or not happy with what God gave them when a lot of us ourselves play around with hair colour, coloured lenses, have nose jobs, boob jobs or whatever.. Maybe they don’t want to look white white but just a little lighter, the same as a lot of westerners (inc myself) like to look browner..
Regarding the safety issues there are clinics and beauty salons in the Far East that do dodgy facial fillers or their own made up kind of botox or even silicone injections straight into the chest for an injectable boob job.. doesn’t mean the whitening injections themselves are unsafe (when the person doesn’t go overboard), just that anyone considering it should go to a doctor/nurse who knows what they’re doing..
In terms of safety if done by a reputable practitioner they are far far safer than many of the skin whitening creams that contain mercury, high levels of hydroquinone etc. which has obviously led to a lot of them being banned in most western countries (inc the UK). There is no such ban on Glutathione or Vit C injections, on the contrary when they are done correctly there are actually benefits..
