colored contacts

how many of you wear them? I have got one pair of soloticas and they are the most natural looking lenses in the world

Re: colored contacts

what color are yours? they're ok to wear if you are a teenager or young adult, but most people tend to find colored lenses tacky (which is a shame, because i always wanted colored lenses)

Re: colored contacts

Show us please!

Re: colored contacts

It depends. There are some adult women who wear the contacts once in a while...and that's no bad....that's just like "experimenting" with your looks and different styles, etc. But then there are some women...and I only know of desi ones...who are past their twenties...have kids....and wear contact lenses on like a daily basis. For the past several years....every desi function you attend....from something as small as a dinner party....to an haqeeqa....to a wedding.....you will see them with their blue or green or gray lens. Heck, you can visit them in their homes...or run into them at the grocery store...and they'll still have the colored lens on. Does anyone find that disturbing...and especially when you have daughters....what message are you sending them? Mind you ...they look lovely in them....but where is the cut-off age and is there even one? One of my friends...known her since high school......every day I saw her with hazel lens...coming to school, going shopping, at every special function... same thing. She now has two kids...still wearing em. They look good on her......but she's got a beautiful eye shape...exotic looking eyes...that she'd look just as pretty (if not more) if she'd go without them. I think for some women who do this on a daily or very frequent basis....I wonder if self-esteem is an issue. In the case of my friend....I remember her being distraught one day because a male cousin of hers had told her "Without your colored lens, you just look like an ordinary girl."

I wouldn't mind wearing them myself once in a while.....but all the time...there's something not right with it. I remember when I was 15...and contacs were very much the rage in middle east...I had tried on my friend's hazel lens (gross, I know). And some of my classmates told me I looked pretty...one of them said "Aisha looks literally pretty." I was flattered....but upon later reflection I thought it sounded it like a backhanded compliment...like my natural eye color rendered me average looking at best....which is not a pleasant thought. I remember a sales rep complimenting my friend at the mall and telling her how beautiful her eyes were (they were hazel contacts) and I bet it feels good to hear that once in a while. But after a certain point....doesn't it feel weird that you're getting recognition/praise for something that's not even natural? If you play up your natural eye color.....and receive a compliment....I would think that's more flattering.

Re: colored contacts

Marwah, youtube it. You'll find videos of women who show you what the colored lens will look like if you have a dark eye color...as most desis do.

Re: colored contacts

I guess I'm partly guilty. I really can't explain why I use them, the reason doesn't go any deeper beyond "I look nice in them." and actually I do love wearing my colored lenses...i wera them continuously for maybe a month or two at a time and then go over to clear...so I alternate.. but I have made some crazy color choices in the past (purple! blue!) but now that i'm older, I know what look sgood on me...but at the same time I'll still experiment with eye color...

its the same wiht coloring hair, sometimes U just want a drastic or subtle change.

Re: colored contacts

I bought a pair of hazel-grayish ones from a pharmacy in Dubai this summer....it was my very first pair and I just wanted to try them out....get it out of my system. They were to only last a month and I wore them maybe a maximum of 3-4 times within that time frame. It was fun...and don't get me wrong...I'm not totally against them. I'm okay with wearing them once in a while..but I just don't understand why some wear them like almost on a daily basis. Yeah it could be argued that it's like changing your hair color...and that makeup isn't "natural" either. It may very well have nothing to do with low self-esteem and could simply be a love for colored lens. Maybe the reason why it self-esteem gets questioned could be that one's eyes....more than any other part of their body....are the windows to their souls.

Re: colored contacts

Well, I wear mine everyday because its just economical..lol.

I buy them by the box (its next to impossible to buy just one pair here)...there are 3 pairs in each box and each pair is supposed to be worn for 2 weeks only (of course not sleeping in them)....I wear my pairs for about a month or so, because I fear that if I leave them alone in their solution for too long, teh contacts will get damaged....not sure how true that is, but seeing as how each box is about $50 each, they're not that cheap.

Re: colored contacts

I have (really) bad vision...so I would wear clear contacts every day...a couple of years ago I tried on Freshlook Colorblends in Brown....it looked exactly like my black eyes but just "brightened" them...I have been wearing those every single day since then...no one ever asks me if my eyes are real or if I'm wearing colored contacts...it looks like my real eyes..I just like how it just gives my eyes that sparkle, and Only I can see the difference wtihout or with my dark brown contacts...

But yes I would def not be able to wear colors that are green, blue, gray, hazel every day, because its not me! also colored contacts look fake so whats the point?? its fine wearing it to a party etc...but thats it...its really tacky wearing it every day...

Also i think it has to do with fashion....I remember 10 years ago, EVERYONE would wear colored contacts all the time! it was like changing your clothes every day....so it was completely normal then, however now its rare to see girls with colored contacts now...

Re: colored contacts

^Are those Colorblends dark brown?

Re: colored contacts

I have watched a tv show abt colored contacts.they have impact on vision and can make u blind.i love to wear them sometimes.but my sis isnt allowing me to wear them after that :(

Re: colored contacts

I'm not sure if it's a self-esteem issue in general, but it might be in the case you mentioned. With me, I wear contacts very rarely, I wear my glasses most of the time but on formal events where glasses would look in appropriate, I wear my contacts. I only own colored contacts...I used to wear clear ones but I have a bad case of dry eyes and after putting my contacts in my eyes, I have trouble taking them out at night and have to fidget with my eyeball and try sliding down my contacts for atleast 30 mins. I had a terrible incident where I put in an old pair of clear contacts in my eye one morning, at night while taking them out, I only found one of them in my eye...I thought it had either melted in my eye (because it felt so thin cuz it was old) or then went in the back of my eye. I didn't sleep that night...was up for 6 hrs pulling the clear shield which I thought might be my contact from my eye...I was pulling it with my nails and made my eye blood shot red. After crying like a baby, and deciding there's nothing I can do at this point...and i'll just go to sleep, I found the missing contact lens on the floor and wanted to pull my hair out. In short, I am scarred for life. After that whenever I have ever put clear contacts in my eyes I start panicing and getting anxious and am so afraid they won't come out and because they're clear, i'll have a hard time finding them like last time. From that day forward, I decided, if I was going to put lens in my eyes, they would have to be colored.

I will say that I also LIKE the way some colored contacts look, my bad experience with clear contacts isn't the only reason I wear colored contacts. Also, for those people who have a dislike for color contacts, I notice them laughing at the fact that some people wear them ONLY on special occasions because it supposedly makes them look better...or so they think. I find that kind of strange too, or I don't know...maybe people just reserve colored contacts for special occasions. But many girls I know, who own prescripted contacts, have colored ones that they wear on a daily basis and it's sort of become a part of who they are and it doesn't seem odd anymore. If I didn't have a distaste for contacts in general, i'd probably be one of those girls....until ofcourse my eye sight stops getting worse so I can laser eye surgery.

Re: colored contacts

Not that I know of any guys who wear them, since we are not attention whores like our opposite half, but I always found the idea of putting anything in my eyes scary. There are also horror stories of how people bought sub-standard contacts and left them on in their eyes, and they nearly got blind because of it. There was a big suit in my state couple of years back about this. You are supposed to take your contacts out daily, but being lazy or rather annoyed at taking the contacts out each day, people left them on though there aren't usually a lot of problems because of it.

Re: colored contacts

**I wear coloured contacts like 4-6 times a year not very often at all … most of the time i wear glasses.
But my all time fav contacts are the fresh look colourblends: sterling gray. it is soo purteh.
And Yes it is kinda not so natural lookin one… but the thing is it does not look scary on me, it blends well with my eye adn face… and i personally kinda like it to be Not so natural looking… cuz if i’m gonna wear contacts then obviously i want them to look very different from my eyes. ( I Love my eye colour too a lot) but when i wear contacts i want it to be kinda obviouse Here i’ll post the pic here:

This is how the actual contacts are:

**

And this is how they look on me:

Re: colored contacts

:nono: not for me, i think they look tacky

Re: colored contacts

I just think that whenever asians have coloured eyes, everyone think they're fake. I'd rather be comfortable (and I am!) with my own natural eye colour

Re: colored contacts

i find them ugly and cant imagine one on myself.

Re: colored contacts

My personal opinion is that desi girls need to get over this hype with colored lenses. Yes, wow you get to change your eye color, but seriously nothing is more fake and idiotic than that. I personally have not seen one single of them were it looked decent. All of them always looked fake and hideous. They actually give them a vampire, dracula look in the eyes. Its freakish! Will never be able to take them seriously, no offense to anyone here!

Re: colored contacts

@oOalyshaOo16, you have gorgeous eyes mashallah, im pretty sure they look just a pretty without the contacts too though :)
What is the reason you wear contacts, can I ask?

Re: colored contacts

I think they very rarely look real and therefore just plain weird.

My cousin's family on the other side have lots of members with naturally hazel/green eyes and there is a translucency you just don't get with coloured contacts.

I prefer brown eyes on our ethnicity anyway.
