To be more precise, outfits and colors suitable for the mother of the bride and mother of the groom for the wedding and valima ceremonies. Lets say the age ground is 45- 50. Need suggestions soon please.
Re: Clothes for older ladies
there are many nice colored dresses which are lightly embroired are available esp for ladies . here in pak . for these occasions .
and for men simple suits and i also like safari suits :)
Re: Clothes for older ladies
gosh sooraj there are soooo many options and colors! My mum is around that age and the only thing she avoids is bright reds/orange/ but you gotta whole gamut of pastels/pinks/blues/purples to choose from! My mum has some beautiful saris in all different colors. She usually wears those on wedding ceremonies and did for mine and my bros too. Depending on the weather you can choose the appropriate color :)
Re: Clothes for older ladies
Hey rukhsar- i aggree with your choice! The wedding is in Mid May so i think some nice medium tones like old rose, dull aqua and grape green would be nice suggestions for them may be with resham/thread embroidery? What do you think?
Re: Clothes for older ladies
My mum wore a maroon 'palachchee' with kora work on the shirt and dupatta for my sisters wedding. On the valima she is either wearing a sari or a dirty tea pink/mauve shalwar qameez which again has kaam on the dupatta and shirt. I am going to take her out to look for a sari in a day or two.
Re: Clothes for older ladies
Femme what is palachachee?
Re: Clothes for older ladies
I'm not good about knowing the difft types of threads and emroderies. Mum has done saris w/ banarsi borders and chiffons w/ sitaaron wala kaam on it. The light thread embrodery ones she usually wears to a distant relative's wedding or a mehndi ceremony.
Re: Clothes for older ladies
palachchee is this sheer material which has velvet pattern on it. Has been very popular in Pakistan over the past few years.
Re: Clothes for older ladies
What about lenga and skirts :D
Re: Clothes for older ladies
aaaoh - someone made that for me and it doesn't look good on me at all. I look like a 50 year old woman wearing it.
Re: Clothes for older ladies
i have seen some very nasty prints in that material too RB. The more intricate the print the better it looks. I have three of them myself and they all look great.
Re: Clothes for older ladies
let me guess, it was from your MIL or SIL? haina
Re: Clothes for older ladies
My ammi wore a royal blue saree on my sister's wedding. It had dark turquoise (at least I think it is turqouise) beading on the puloo and along the borders of the saree, and a gorgeous beaded design on the back of the blouse. She got a lot of compliments on it.
Re: Clothes for older ladies
If you dont mind posting pictures.. i would love to throw my ideas...
Color of skin has alot to do with it. Plus size of the person. YOu want over weight people to look a little skinny and skinny to look decent on wedding day especially. there are certain patterns that simply dont go for certain sizes and i think we will all agree here....
Re: Clothes for older ladies
I agree with Femme, like any other fabric type, Palachchee can look horrible if not the right color, design, pattern etc. My mom has a couple of palachchee suits, ones a combo of lavendar and dark voilet with an intricate pattern. Looks great :k:
Recently I saw pictures of an aunty (mother of the bride) wearing an all white outfit with heavy red/maroon embroidery on the whole kameez and pallus of the dupatta. It looked awesome.
Re: Clothes for older ladies
I look like a 40 yr old :(
Re: Clothes for older ladies
nope actually from my mamoo :D
Re: Clothes for older ladies
yeah mine was in purple with sort of big flowers I think. My mom thinks I shall wear it one day but I shall not make that mistake :p
Re: Clothes for older ladies
Thanks guys!
Re: Clothes for older ladies
why do old poeple have to wear pastles? My mum loves turqoises and deep maroons, bright autumnal oranges etc. looks fab.
