Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

When the World War-II ended
Europe was in shackles.

A huge planning on repair & restoration
was required. Some allies went against
each other and sabotage, arson and

kidnapping cases against some countries..
increased…

This led to Hollywood coming up
with a fantastic movie

“THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH”
(Starring James Stewart and others)
The movie based on a British Govt.
secret service official who’s son is kidnapped

and his wife remembers her son
by singing a song…

That song became the song of Europe
then..and maintained its popularity

from 1950 through 1964
when every restaurant, every hotel
every jukebook…only played
this song an people with tears in
their eyes…sat silently and heard this song

in total serenity.

THIS SONG and its very strong impact
still contnues..at games and

on relevant occasions
(I am a witness to the large number
of Scots at Glasgow’s St.George’ Square
the day Scotland & Italy met at
the final of EuroCup Qualifier…

and everyone including myself
were singing this CLASSIC by Doris Day)

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

**SUMMER HOLIDAY **
made at the Elstree Studios, London, was the by-product of the popularity gained by Cliff Richards’ first hit “The Young Ones”.

**SUMMER HOLIDAY **
**had; Cliff Richards, Lauri Peters, Melvyn Hayes, R. Green, Una Stubbs and the famous band group; THE SHADOWS (Hank B. Marvin, Bruce, and two more)

**SUMMER HOLIDAY, **
upon its release in Karachi at the REX Cinema, was the talk of the town! Its mesmerizing and fun fun fun songs and the story of four young lads – workers at LONDON BUS COMPANY…on vacation of some European Countries in a mini caravan converted from a London Bus
..with story ending at Athens.

**The movie had quite a few memorable songs of which two are as infectious as ever…and of which I take pleasure in posting a link of an ever popular song **
**BACHELOR BOY **
sung by Cliff which his co-workers and THE SHADOWS joining him when they stop at a certain point to check the radiator of the London Bus…they were traveling.

Some of the wordings of this song..which I could not grasp till this day..are quite clear now..when I watched this video clip.

Have patience in downloading the link and enjoy…

***WHEN YOU HEAR THE NAMES;
BURL IVES & DEAN MARTIN, YOU GET MUSIC IN YOUR EARS!

MESMERIZING, SOFT AND MOOD MUSIC WHICH INTOXICATES YOU
AND TAKES BACK A PERSON OF MY AGE…TO THOSE WONDERFUL DAYS WHEN MUSIC WAS FUN..AND SERENADING.

**PRESENTING ONE EACH OF THE TWO SINGERS—WHO HAS LEFT BEHIND SOME HAPPY MEMORIES THROUGH THEIR SAD SONGS!
**
Burl Ives sings;

“Four Initials On A Tree”

AND

Dean Martin sings;

“Memories Are Made Of This…”

We also remember Dean as an actor…
mostly pairing with Jerry Lewis…
in some classic slapsticks of yesteryears…!!!

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

***When Kishore Kumar was given the script to sing the subject song, it took him three hours to rehearse and also to make a major change in the tune or dhunn..which was set to be a sad one.

***Kishore convinced Nashaad and evolved the sad dhunn to a merry one…still extricating the sadness in a happy way…beautifully and rythmically..!

***It is said that the author of the lyrics of this song is unknown but there are certain facts on which I am currently trying to go to the core of the matter…as someone very very close to me…is said to be the author or writer of this song in 1956-57 the script of which was taken to India by one of the then, leading actress of India (LEELA) visiting Pakistan then…and had come to Income Tax Office, Karachi for a clearance certificate on some earnings she got through some contract for stage appearance then.

That (the Income Tax Certificate issue) happened with famous singer Talat Mahmood also when he visited Karachi in 1959-60 and had to perform at the Pakistan Taxation Club, Garden Road, Karachi at the request of the then, Income Tax Commissioner of Karachi and Talat was given a clearance certificate.

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

uncle, do you have that song (should be in classics) goes like 'oh sunlay ae jaane wafa ..hongay na hum kabhi juda' composed by M Ashraf.don't know the singer's name.moin akhtar sung it when he came on brunch with bushra couple of weeks back.

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

**Yes..I have that song on the CD but since I have a collection of 2000 CDs of OLD and New songs....they are all mixed up...and everyday..past few weeks I am taking out time to re-arrange the mess....of the pottage....to put my audio-DV stuff in order at my library. The movie DVs number to 1500...which too need to be serialized...as a data base on my laptop and USB.... **

I will put the youshare link of your choice...by the weekend.

I remember this song picturized on Nadeem and Deeba. Cant remember the movie at the moment...but it has a hit movie..alright.

MOIN AKHTAR!!!!!!!!!! never....he was never a playback singer..though he did sing some songs and made private cassettes commercially. I think this song was sung by Ahmed Rushdie...or Masud Rana.

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

When the name of TRINI LOPEZ
(no reference to Jennifer Lopez)
comes in mind…one lets his hair down
and gets into the good ‘teenage’ mood

**even now…after 38 years since
TRINI LOPEZ **
became the
**chocolate cream singer **
of females & males at schools.
His super hit song
“Lemon Tree” shot him to fame
and his love for America…

**mae him sing this song…
which is inspirational **
and thought provoking.
Enjoy…

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

Uncle can u start a thread of Pakistani songs of the yesteryears, I don't have a collection of Pakistanis oldies, please ???

Ok! not for me only, but for some of us interested, please?

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

arjay uncle, I am specifically looking for the song, *'Gori Ghunghat Main Sharmaaye' *I think sung by rangeela, if you have it, please share ...

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

Some ideas on this thread are very good & thought provoking.

Since I never dedicated this thread for any particular genre or category or language, I think we'll go for the mixture but essentially OLDIES in URDU and ENGLISH.....

A song or music or two...each day!! and suggestions welcome BUT please ensure that the age of the song or music...should be over 30 years atleast......(leave Atef Aslam, Faakhir, Jawwad etc for SONY & STAR+ now....because that's where they find their final frontier!)

So coming up next are TWO classic oldies of Pakistani & Indian movies which will force you to sing the song alongside hearing it..after downloading...I do promise you that.

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

arjay uncle am i right?, 'Gori Ghoonghat main sharmaaye' was sung by m kaleem ???

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

Since M. Kaleem belonged...basically to the Radio Pakistan-Karachi stock artiste group--I posed your Q on Qazi Wajid...and he confirms that...it WAS M.Kaleem who sang it....!
