Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

To ME this song of early sixties by Connie Francis
has a lot of memories in store…including the first
prize I won at THE SAMs-MURREE in a dance competition-1966.

THE MOVIE: GULFAM (1960)
THE SINGER: MEHDI HASAN
THE SITUATION;
Neelo (filmstar Shan’s mom) dancing and slowly
approaching the dreamland with her Hero; DARPAN
playing Sitar and describing her approach.

Absolutely mesmerizing song..and still a reckoning one!

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

Very nice share Raju bhai, keep posting :k:

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

OH CAROL! (I am but a fool)
was the song which ruled the hearts of
the teens of early sixties.
Sung by NEIL SEDAKA, one can well imagine
the impact of that song that some POP fundos
of present era beautifully carved into MINGLISH
and made big by hit of that song!

Iam privileged to have sung Sedaka’s OH CAROL
at the Valentine Ball of the Cantt. Public School of Karachi in 1966.

Being Valentine Day today..and proceeding to Arabian Sea Country
Club for the ball with many memories of yesteryears in mind,

I thought to enlighten the members here with Sedaka’s
mesmerizing classic..which though a lament, does have an ambiance
of its kind…

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

ELVIS PRESLEY…has been a magic, unbelievable
and someone who made a place in everyone’s heart
with his mesmerizing Songs, Gospels, Dance and Movies.

I have been a member of Elvis Fan Club in Pakistan
at Karachi-early 60’s and I also received an official
letter from Elvis..sometime in 1963..when I wrote to him
at his hometown Memphis-Tennessee.

Of his 100’s of hits…one which has its own
flair of spanish guitar touch plus…
a feel of western music to our likes…

is none but ;
DON’T BE CRUEL…

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

Back in early 70’s
ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK
created a stir by cutting his classic albums
which became a ‘pillow talk’ of us merrymen
and his songs like SPANISH EYES,
THERE’s A KIND OF HUSH…etc,

made it on top in various charts!
His mesmerizing RELEASE ME
topped for straight three years…
and its impact still carries itself that
WILLIAM BROTHERS re-enacted it with a different mood…

IF music be the food of love…play on;

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

One of the most infectious music
which had an uncontrolable craving
for FOXTROT or WALTZ…

traditionally has been;
“Save the last dance for..me”
by the Drifters.
The song well balances the feet movement of the partners
and its music brings out the body movement for a

dance which was held during ballroom functions
at the Presidential parties frequently held at the
White House, Buckngham Palace, French Presidency
and not to forget the Vienna Waltz at Austria.

Enjoy the song and feel the steps as of your own;

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

CHUBBY CHECKER
…the Negro swashbuckling aristrocratic figure
thought slightly heavy, took the world by storm
when he introduced a totally new concept of dancing
in early sixties…and due to the body action being
the way…he gave the name of the dance…as

TWIST
***With a very strong urge for taking the floor at ***
every jam session we had with live bands on Sundays,
the TWIST was a must…much so much in Pakistan,
we saw the introduction of sunglasses with a very
trendy and peculiar design…named TWIST !

Chubby..while dancing the twist..also sang it…
beautifully and with both the feet rotating..affixed
on the ground…the hands too moved simultaneously
creating a hype of its type…

Hear this TOP OF THE CHARTS;
“Lets Twist (again)”

Re: CLASSICS (songs) OF YESTERYEARS

BUDDY HOLLIES & THE BAND..
were like oxygen to the teens
of the sixties…for rock-n-roll
dance music…
Even now, our dances at
mehendis and dholkis

must have this number
of Buddy Holly;
“Let’s Go To The Hop,”
too good and MY favorite…
makes me dance…whenever
I hear it;
