maybe in midwest/village/etc don't get alot of creepy/annoying people in their midst. Unfortunately cities have alot of ppl...and there are a few ppl who are just horrible. Cz there's so many.

I think its all about how fast life is in the city... You may not agree but I think there is a direct link between having less time for more work and the attitude that you judged in them..
I'm taking it as an overall situation so may be wrong when it comes to "gals" only
Is it exposure to a fast pace life in the younger years because I think they cannot change. They should start selling "I am saareal" t-shirts down Madison ave for desi ppl. (Marketing IDEA!)
I don't think they I can change even when life slows down. I still smile too much and am way to nice for my surroundings.
I also think they think the attitude is attractive. (I personally couldn't disagree more)
Hmmmmm nj, what do you mean they've got too much attitude? Sometimes attitude is needed - or do you mean in general, when they come to work in the morning they're automatically grumpy?

SU - grumpy is on a day to day basis. I think I am grumpy sometimes. Everyone is entitled to have grumpy days
Yes I am talking about too much attitude without any reason.
Models have attitudes - okay they are pretty. People who go to Harvard have attitudes because they have brains.
But I am talking about unecessary attitude SU - that think they are God's gift to the planet but seriously really belong in a zoo.
ok...I worked in NYC for over a decade and I lived in manhattan in my own little apartment for a year and a half.
Yup, theres attitude. LOTS of it. But its kind of justified...you catch the eye of a stranger in a subway and they take it as an invite to assault you. You try to get a seat on the subway while pregnant or wearing a cast (on two feet!!) and you get pushed and shoved out of the way. I could go on and on here,,,when you live in any big city, esp when you're a gal and on your own, you NEED attitude or you just wont survive.
As for work "attitude"...if you're driven, if you show up early and leave late, do your job in a spectacular fashion...then you'll get ahead. If you moan and groan about being a gal, about womens rights yadayada...you'll hit the glass ceiling. If you're spouting off about the unfairness of the planet then you aint doing the job you were hired to do. Ive seen this so many countless times - both the get-ahead types and the complainer/whiner types and it never ever failed...the workers got ahead, the whiners hit the glass ceiling and got shelved.
City life is lean and mean for sure. And you NEED attitude if you want to live in one.
Me? I'm still playing lotto and praying fervently for enough of a win to get me a horse ranch somewhere in the wilds of Wyoming.
^ i went to new york a few years ago and found the ppl to be rather smiley and friendly so hearing that is somewhat of a surprise to me.... I suppose u'd hate london then lol coz ppl here are not as nice as americans (generalization that ive heard and experienced but still a generalization i know)
Yes, i've never heard of chicago having the attitude people- Psquared did you live in the city or a suburb of chicago?
definitely NYC and LA. I think people have attitude here because they need to get to work and many have been on an hour+ long commute with high profile jobs and don't have time to waste with tourists (that's how my NYC friend thinks) Also like MO3 said, it's a cycle- being a little nice brings unwanted attention because it's not the norm, so nice people start getting the attitude to ward off the attention. Or they just grow up that way.
There's also the elitist attitude- outsiders may admire the city and it's citizens for having the latest trends or technology, and so there definitely a sense of pride that can develop into an "i'm better than you" superiority attitude. It's like people here looking down on 'paindoos' - that might be how the city people think of the non-city people. Not saying it's right, but just sayin'.
