When did you have it done? Were there any complications?

I'd like to know what Medical benefits this has..**

I hope this is male circumcision, you are talking about. Male circumcision is a Religious Ritual with no medical benefits. Again its a ritual and not the religion.
A guy in the USA sued his parents for mutilating him as a child.
In some tribes in Africa even girls are mutilated. This is to prevent them from enjoying sex. Im not sure, but I believe these people called themselves muslims.
What are the origins of such barbaric rituals? Does Anyone here knows?

probably you need better research. it provides better hygeine (correct ma spellin) and reduces related skin diseases. I have read in bio books, I can't provide references since I don't own them.

2. Some say it reduces sexual satisfaction.

now you are talking about 'hear-say' words here. it actually increases sexual pleasure for men, and helps women pleasure as well.
Please visit the site shown by bro Mad_Scientist for some info on it.

Yes, I've also read about this 'women-circumcision' thing in Africa. One opinion from those people is that 'clitoris' of those women is 'longer' than what they think it should be (not part of religion, to my knowledge). Second opinion is that it is to reduce sexual pleasure in women there.
We oughta be Changez like, don't we?

It does have medical benefits… these can be seen at this link
And it definately increases sexual satisfacion for both parties. By making the penis less sensitive, the male can carry out the act of copulation for longer without ejaculating.

Didnt Allah Miya make us perfect. Why modify something that he made. If he wanted us to be circumcised , he could have made us that way. This is too much tampering in his grand design. Or, did HE/SHE make a mistake and we are now correcting it ??

Didn't Allah SWT give us brains to use it? why everybody has different thinking if ALL of us are PERFECT? Don't we find others doing 'bad' deeds, why?
The term 'perfect' does not mean that it is perfect for 'everything'. Human body is not perfect to live without proper dressing in northern areas, is it? Don't just take the term, go into finer detail and try to learn what it means.
God also gave us hair on body, why ever cut hair? why cut nails? Just think.

And I know of a Muslim family in which this procedure is ritually performed at the age of 3!

No it does not contribute anything towards hygiene. Its the multiple partners that create a problem, regardless of circumcision.
Secondly, performing circumcision is like saying that God made a mistake and we as humans have to correct it.
If a family wants to circumsize their male children, 3 and up is the best age and use of anaesthesia is humane.
Based on what source are you so adamant that circumcision does not promote better hygiene?
Have you read the contents of the document link that mad scientist has posted earlier in this thread?
With regards to improving upon Allah's creation.....well....anyone putting that argument forth hasn't done their homework.

Muzna,
I'm aware of the AAP's statement on circumcision. They have gone back and forth on this issue and in 1997, they reversed there position. The fact is that when they talk about prevention of various infections and decrease in the incidence of penile cancer, they acknowledge that these two conditions are also related to sexual promiscuity and multiple partners and if these two pre-requisites are present, then circumcision does not make any difference. So here you have a paradoxical situation regarding prevention of disease by removing a piece of foreskin. Finally, after all this, they say, its upto you to make an informed decision.
Regarding the human body and its mutilation in any form, including circumcision, is not part of Islam that I practice and I don't need any home work on that.

Nails and Hair grow back and are meant to be cut, that's why they are painless. Circumcision is irreversible and religion has nothing to do with any of this. These are rituals adopted by humans in one form or the other.

mullay do pyazay, actually we shouldn't be looking at science to conform our beleif. science is not as matured yet almost in any area. take biology, take physics, take semiconductors.... all these areas are still 'improving'/'developing'. we can't base our reference on something that is not fully developed yet.
also for your information, Islam also tells you to trim your nails and head-hair (for men) as 'sunnah'. don't you follow this one?
now this one you'd readily accept to beleive/act because it is much more apparent for cleanliness. but since you are being so materialistic you'd reject the one which your mind can't comprehend.
it looks better this way (I' read the atlest 95% of the pornos have circumcised male actors because it looks better - more women prefer it that way) . And besides, who wants to be wearing a turtle-neck sweater when the temperature is always warm down there??
You may be impressed by American Academy Of Pediatrics MORE than Islam, but in my book you & AAP can go to hell & i will practice medicine without both of yours help.
These Academys are chartered corporation in one state ,NOTHING more than that .Its no more than Islamic center of Iowa saying somthing or having opinion. If you are being examined by them you say that ,but take it from pro ,all of them are full of gaps in there opinions & research.
AS some body said little knowlege is a dangerous thing .And not knowing can lose your imaan.Na idher ke rahe na udher ke rahe .In 1500 yrs of scienctific discoveries no statement of quran have been found to be wrong scientifically .Controversy exist only b/c you cant force on nn believer not b/c science is superior .
You guys have an amazing ability to automatically assume that anyone who is posting here is a muslim, and a knowledgable muslim at that. :)
I hope this discussion stays on scientific and physical aspects. I am quite amused by reading the posts of Tanhaa and Mullah. Looking forward to some intelligent responses and not "go to hell" sorta stuff.
