You’re not seeing this clearly.
Your assumption is that they would have been unified today solely for the sake of Muslim unity.
Being that the Middle East is primarily Muslim and is the most naturally rich land in the world, they don’t need the U.S. or Europe to keep them rich. They’re not doing this why? Because they’re all too busy squabbling over petty tribal, cultural and religious differences. As you mentioned, this is what happened even shortly after the time of the Prophet Muhammad, sallalahu alaihi wa’sallam.
So then one must ask, “Since we were never united before, why would we unite now?” One word: fear. Muslim nations have realized they’re all targets, or will be sooner or later, in this so-called “War on Terror”. NATO forces are turning people into enemies under the notion, “guilty by association”. We’re slowly seeing enemies of enemies setting aside differences to join a common cause. My point is why continue to do business with a bully who you don’t really need to do business with anymore? There’s a lot of profit that can be made by establishing their own Middle Eastern economy with just each other, and a hell of a lot more stable too.
The world is full of lies and contradiction. It’s quite surprising how anyone can dismiss such facts and continue to live with themselves. There are always those from every generation who believe the past will never repeat itself and completely ignore what we’ve done in our past.
