Normally I get in a really jolly mood around this time of the year and play some Christmas music, watch movies and have treats and stuff for visitors and kids and this year we had decided that we wont do gifts and stuff but all of a sudden some strangers did acts of kindness towards me and I got right in the spirit of things and have been doing Christmas shopping like crazy.
I’ll be working and accumulating the vacation time for later use. The only thing out of the ordinary would be to follow and try to capitalize on boxing day/week deals.
I get 10 days off over the Holidays, my boy is coming from Uni so it will be a lot of fun. I will see if we can sneak in some skiing over the Holidays. I have a room full of gifts for them.
Kindness is contagious, it started with this lady giving me the parking ticket, last night a couple of girls came to my business shivering in the cold looking for an address, seemed like they got off at the wrong stop and their destination was 4 kilometers away and they wanted to walk there, I gave them a ride to their destination and they were really grateful, then a colleague wanted my help and I helped her out. I put this young Russian realtors name on a deal where she technically wasn’t qualified and she really needed the money..she was speechless…all this because of the parking ticket.. How is yourChristmas spirit coming.
We had a great Christmas/holiday lunch yesterday. After that we had a very interesting game of Christmas gift exchange (Secret Santa).
But the rules were set as below. We were a group of 55 so it turned out soo much fun.
Rules
Participants bring one wrapped gift (typically within $15 - $20 range) and places the gift in a pile/central location.
Participants draw numbers to determine the order in which they go.
The person who drew #1](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=1) goes first and must open a gift from the pile.
The person who drew #2](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=2) goes next and has the choice of taking the gift opened by #1](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=1) or selecting an unopened gift. If #1](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=1) 's gift is taken player #1](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=1) must open another gift from the pile.
The person who drew #3](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=3) goes next and can either take #1](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=1) 's gift, or take #2](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=2) 's gift, or open a gift. If player #3](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=3) takes an opened gift from player #1](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=1) or #2](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=2) then that player who is now giftless has the option of taking the other gift that was opened or opening a wrapped gift (they cannot take player #3](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=3) 's gift -- see rule 8).
Play continues as such with players either taking/swapping a gift or opening one.
When a gift is opened the round is over (you can't decide you don't like what you opened and decide to swap for something else).
Any single gift can only be swapped once per round.
Once the round for the highest numbered player has completed player #1](http://gupshup.org/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=1) can swap gifts with any other player (for this final round there is no futher swapping after that).
Hard core rule additions that can be useful if you have a large group.
After taking your turn you **must** keep your gift out where other players can see it.
When it’s your turn if you touch a wrapped gift you **have** to open it.
If a participant takes too much time deciding which gift to swap/open the remaining participants **can** start counting aloud from ten down to zero. If zero is reached the participant must take the wrapped gift closest to them.
I had got the number 45 so when my turn came I had plenty of options and I chose a unpacked gift from someone else’s pick so turned out really good
haha…she did her research before asking me to marry her. It wasn’t an arranged marriage. And yes she is a very kind-hearted, loving and nurturing lady.
haha…I remember playing that game and it was a hoot. Gift giving is so awesome. I am glad Europeans stole that idea from Pagans. I am making a lot of effort in being jolly and kind and being in a giving spirit.
And then the main christmas/holiday party is next week. That I certainly never want to miss lol. Actually there are 1-2 parties every night but its just too much for me so pass most of them.
I haven’t attended any Christmas parties this year, our party was at a bit of drive from home and I didnt like the venue. My last corporation used to invite the whole family to a world renowned 5-star mountain resort
What did they have for food? at one party I had cedar plank salmon and I can still taste it in my mouth. Many serve roast beef with horseradish and I love it. The girls really go all out and doll up with all the hair dos and makeup etc. Was it a black tie event?
No last year they encouraged “red” but this year it was left upto us. Most guyz wore suits with different combinations. Didnt see any tux. Girls were mostly party dresses except execs.
Food was in abundance. They had different sections of food in each corner. Every section had one table salad, one table indian, one chinese, one italian and one american/continental. I doubt if anybody can complain there isnt any option for them.
I really enjoyed it and stayed till the end. Ridiculous atmosphere
Wow, they did go all out. Good for you. At my current corporation, the party is really crappy so I didn’t bother going. I am going to do a turkey some leg of lamb and maybe one desi item for Christmas dinner. I will make the kids help out this time, it gets to be too much work for one person.
