There was a time when women from lower caste used to sell bangles (chooriyan) and clothes by visiting the homes. The arrangement was probably for facilitating Purda Nasheen khwateen.
Also saw Pathan men on cycle chanting’ Kapdo le lo kapdo’.
Do you remember watching this trade in your past or recently?

we have a muslim lady in our village who sells bangles till now...
kapre bechana band hai magar nakli carpet blankets bechnewale ajate hain....
have you ever seen housewives buying utensils in exchange for used old cloths?

that exchange system. They demand a lot of clothes for a small utensils. My Ammi collected lot of our old clothes and wanted to have a big hundia and some other utensils for them. But the women offered a medium size hundia for all that. My Ammi pick up all the clothes and asked her ’ humen nahin lene.. iss acha hai main ralli na banwa loon inn kapron se ’

lols. Reminds me detergent wali aunties promising washing machine gift on buying some unknown brand of washing powder.
There used to be some women visiting homes and claiming that they can take insects from your ears by blowing air with the help of a hollowen wooden stick. Once my Dadi allowed them and they get many inspects from her ears. Couldn’t understand the process

Ok there was another group of women, who came up with simple toys made of wood and grass and they sold those toys in exchange of a full bowl of flour.

Ninja you said selling bangles in your part still prevail, but sale of cloths is no more in fashion. Any particular reason for that?

Lot of cloth stores opened in rural areas.......now villagers started wearing jeans,t-shirts,shalwar kameez,sarees.....
pehele hindu larkian shalwar kameez nahi pehnti thi they used to wear petticoat like skirt and half sleeved shirts....
auratein lugada pehanti thi aur admi dhoti(punjabi nahi maharashtrian)

ab to yeh sab har roz asani se available hota hai....
