Chipped ..

Once a month , I take the time to separate chipped cups, glasses , bowls and plates … and then I just dispose them off … or use them for other non kitchen needs …

But I know of people who never throw them away and keep using them on and on and forever :hinna:

What is the best practice to handle chipped crockery? specially when an expensive piece gets chipped , what to do then? :hmmm:

Re: Chipped ..

Dil per pathar rakh ker dispose it off.. it can hurt you while handling even though you don't use it for kitchen purposes. You can use their orphaned co-parts for other uses though.

Re: Chipped ..

I throw them away too. But I don't go thru looking for one, I know since I am the one who wash dishes, when I have to throw something.
Its best to throw it away specially glasses.

Re: Chipped ..

superglue!

just glue the chipped part back on. good as new! :D

Re: Chipped ..

islamically we are not suppose to eat/drink in chipped crockery.
just discard them.

Re: Chipped ..

^yeah thats what I was taught.. my mom was pretty strict about it and so am I.. I use Corelle for everyday and this thing doesn't break.. I am tired of using same plates for more than a year and they have hit the floor so many times but no they have survived through all.. for china crockery.. I don't use it very often but I always thought that you can buy a missing piece at Macy's.. can't you?

Re: Chipped ..

me too... no chipped crockery and no ripped clothing.. former is thrown out without even trying ot fix it cuz glass can never look the same again...
as for clothing.. if it cant be mended.. it needs to be thrown out too.. reasoning being fakeer jaisa huliya kerlo, allah fakeer bana dega and ive seen this to be true sadly..

Re: Chipped ..

okay, i was just joking guys :( i throw out my chipped glasses too..

Re: Chipped ..

All I have to say is that CB, could you come over to my house and help me out here. You are soooooo good :hinna: I’ll send you the ticket.

my dishes dont even chip. they just break. freakin glass glasses

CB, you are chipping cups, glasses, bowls and plates .. once a month. :hmmm: you should spend less time in the kitchen from now on.

I have never heard this before. Can you tell me more?

once a month-- thats quite frequent. maybe its your dishwasher? anyway, try corelle for everyday use.

as far as bartan are concerned, we have been recommended not to drink or eat from chipped utensils (sunnah).

bear in mind, the chipped dishes will lead into broken dishes, so save yourself the hassle and toss.

Re: Chipped ..

with chipped cup u can make a pencil holder ..just cover it with flower paper...

Re: Chipped ..

She said she’s not using it for kitchen purposes.

Well you do as smilestar suggested, superglue it if you have the chipped part or use that plaster of paris thingie to cover the chipped part so it doesn’t hurt while handling. Of course you won’t be using it for eating/drinking etc. but depending upon the peice you can

make it a pencil holder as Kinzz suggested
or a candle holder
or maybe some artificial/real flowers like this

or if it’s big enough grow some herbs in it

or use it to hold pins, jewelry etc like this

will come back if something else comes to mind.

p.s: both pics from MS site

Re: Chipped ..

what do you do if you have a crack but it isn't chipped? cuz glasses tend to do that. it's got a line through it but it's not chipped

Re: Chipped ..

^it can cut your lips or even your hands during washing.

Re: Chipped ..

nah nothing like that. it's not even like on the outside (or inner part of the glass for that matter). it's like a 1 line in the inner layers of the glass...if that makes sense.

Re: Chipped ..

TLK and all you guys who think I chipp my stuff in excess :asa: … once a month I just look carefully at the stuff I have , doesnt mean , I definitely get chipped bartan every time :emmy::barbie: :barbie:

Masi , :lifey: great ideas … I usually do some glass painting on the chipped crystal glasses and use them as decoration pieces , flower vases etc …

Last week a large coffee mug got chipped so I turned it onto my lip and eye pencil holder :@: … But I take extra care not to use the glass products on my cosmetic table .. coz glass can be really dangerous.

I always find it so hard to throw them away :frowning: … It makes me really emtional and I just cant part with my things

i am getting what are you saying but sooner or later they would break. if you will pour too hot or cold water then jaldi kaam tamam ho jaye ga.they dont look good with that crack as well.
