China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

ISLAMABAD: China on Monday reaffirmed its continuing support to Pakistan in its fight against militancy and for the promotion of regional peace and stability.

The assurance came during President Asif Ali Zardari’s meeting with Chinese Vice premier and State Councillor Meng Jianzhu at the Presidency on Monday. The president thanked China for its support to Pakistan on all issues of major concern to the country and its people.

Pakistan and China on Monday night also signed a number of agreements for economic and technical cooperation, the supply of relief goods, emergency humanitarian assistance and the rehabilitation of some damaged parts of the National Highways networks, at a special was witnessed by President Zardari, State Councilor of China Meng Jianzhu, federal ministers, governor and chief minister Gilgit-Baltistan and members of the visiting Chinese delegation.

Agreements signed involved about $250 million in Chinese assistance and took place soon after the meetings between the Chinese State Councilor and the president. Presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said in two rounds of talks at the Presidency, matters that came under discussion included Pak-China relations, mutual cooperation, the regional situation, fight against militancy and recent devastation caused by heavy rains in Sindh.

The president said Pakistan at present was passing through a critical phase, battling to rid the country of the curse of the militant mindset and to reconstruct the damaged infrastructure and rehabilitate the flood-devastated people who had lost everything in successive calamities.

While discussing the regional situation with Meng Jianzhu, the president said Pakistan greatly appreciated China’s support to Pakistan on all issues of major concern. He said China was a source of stability for the region and was very important in ushering in a new era of peace and stability in the region. He said that in these hard times when the country was grappling with many challenges simultaneously, Chinese assistance was most welcome in stabilising the situation.

The president thanked the Chinese government for sending a consignment of 7000 tents. He said that the displaced people required hundred of thousands of tents and Pakistan looked forward to China’s assistance in the areas of shelter and health.

Meng Jianzhu thanked President Zardari for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation and assured continued Chinese support to Pakistan on all issues of concern to the people of Pakistan and Pak government.

Later the president also hosted a dinner for the Chinese dignitary and his delegation that was also attended by federal ministers and senior officials. Chinese Ambassador Liu Jian, Deputy Secretary General of the State Council Wang Yongqing, Vice Minister Zhou Qing, Assistant Minister Chneg Guoping and Li Wei, DG MFA and former Ambassador Luo Zhaohui and other senior officials attended the dinner.

The Pakistan side included Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar, Governor Gilgit-Baltistan, Secretary General Salman Faruqui, Chairperson BISP Ms Farzana Raja, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, Pakistan Ambassador to China Masood Khan and other senior officials.

Meanwhile, Meng Jianzhu also called on General Khalid Shameem Wynne, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), says an ISPR press release on Monday. Both leaders discussed matters pertaining to mutual interests and the emerging geo-strategic situation of the region.

The visiting dignitary appreciated the role played by the armed forces of Pakistan in the fight against terror. The CJCSC on the occasion highlighted the converging interests of Pakistan and China, both in the areas of security and economics.

NNI adds: Chinese Vice Premier Meng Jianzhu has said his country will stand by Pakistan “in any hour of need.”

Talking to newsmen after his arrival here on Monday, he said that the Sino-Pak friendship is time test and all weather. The Chinese vice premier said his country would stand by Pakistan during this critical juncture.

Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik received the honourable guest at the Chaklala Airport. The Chinese leader also met the military leadership in Rawalpindi. He will have a breakfast meeting with Interior Minister Malik on Tuesday while Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General Ahmed Shuja Pasha will call on the guest at a luncheon.

The Chinese leader will leave for his homeland after having a meeting with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani. Analysts are attaching more importance to this visit in the backdrop of US threats to Pakistan regarding alleged ties with the Haqqani network.

Online adds: The Chinese vice prime minister said, “We are celebrating 2011 as a year of friendship following the completion of 60 years of friendship between China and Pakistan. I have come to Pakistan to further improve ties”, he maintained.

I really don’t know despite of all support from China why our leaders always look towards USA :frusty:

Re: China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

What support? These are just diplomatic words.

Whenever Pakistani leaders go to China with their begging bowl, they get sent away with barely a few pennies.

Let's get real, China barely cares about Pakistan.

Re: China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

So you think USA and IMF are our real friend who are giving us Pennies :smack2:
China knows about the nature of our current leaders and avoid to give them money as they know money ll be transferred to Swiss accounts immediately …

Re: China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

Do you actually believe all this..???

Re: China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

If i say "yes"

Re: China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

Recall your memory to 2001's 9/11. When Musharraf needed help from China to help against US threat "are you with us or against us", China flately refused to help. Musharraf instead of resigning from the post made u-turn and destroyed the country. The stupid, coward d"]bstard. At that time China did not want to jeoperdize its application for membership in WTO, which was pending for approval.

China is not a "friend in need is friend indeed". It is only a commercial friend, wants to sell its not so good products to Pakistan. Nothing more nothing less.

Re: China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

:smack2: Don’t you know the reason ? Our traders advise them to make a toy only for 5 Rupees so they do for them but on the other hand if some traders from Japan or USA ask them a good quality toy then they produce fine quality toy in a price of 5 $. So there is no blame on them to providing cheap goods to Pakistan. At least poor can buy toys for their kids on cheap rate rather then to purchase same thing on 500 Rupees.

Re: China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

I agree with you that these are diplomatic words but why do we have to look at friends who will give us money? If you are looking for a friend who will give you money then you are actually looking to become a prostitute.

China however "invested" big money on Gawadar and has helped in various projects.

Re: China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

Re: China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

The real Chinese leader friends of Pakistan are long gone when we heard the echo cheers like Pakistani Cheeni Bhai Bhai. At that time people of Pakistan called them as Cheena Bhai. No more.

Re: China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

I was talking about millions of dollars worth defective locomotives and coaches exported to Pakistan Railways during Mush’s time, rendering Railway ineffective and almost now a dead organization.

For sure if China wanted more stronger relations with pakistan they have their huge interests on it as a new super power he need allies to cut off the pressure of USA and India from this region, the thing is that as he need us we need badly a friend close to us in all meanings, and as far as the question is he realy help us on any situation we should waite for that time which prove that he is just a paper lion or realy our friend. its more then enough now to keep sharing our interests with USA which proves too many times ONLY USA MUFADAT and pocket money of our politicians.

Re: China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

one day indo pak freindship zindbad hogi

Re: China will stand by Pakistan in hour of need: Chinese vice PM

Well said....in addition China could use the geographic advantage Pakistan has....I guarantee China will treat Pakistan the same way as US (after weaning pak away from US fully), if Pakistan appraches the Chinese relationship the same way it approached US. Relationships should be based on mutual interest. Open market for Chinese goods and ask for investment not military aid. Of course, in order for investment to flow you need to offer them environment. So, work on cleaning the house, use the US money to do that....show some serious intent in cleaning up the terrorism menance and ask US to pay more for it....get rid of terrorism and with that also the dependence on US ......rather than go crying to "Mommy" to China, go for Business partner ship...

I don't know why Pakistan is averse to taking medicine or undergoing surgery. It almost never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity (not my words....heard some where)

US, Pakistan Near Open War; Chinese Ultimatum Warns Washington Against Attack

China has officially put the United States on notice that Washington’s planned attack on Pakistan will be interpreted as an act of aggression against Beijing. This blunt warning represents the first known strategic ultimatum received by the United States in half a century, going back to Soviet warnings during the Berlin crisis of 1958-1961, and indicates the grave danger of general war growing out of the US-Pakistan confrontation.

“Any Attack on Pakistan Would be Construed as an Attack on China”
Responding to reports that China has asked the US to respect Pakistan’s sovereignty in the aftermath of the Bin Laden operation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu used a May 19 press briefing to state Beijing’s categorical demand that the “sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan must be respected.” According to Pakistani diplomatic sources cited by the Times of India, China has “warned in unequivocal terms that any attack on Pakistan would be construed as an attack on China.” This ultimatum was reportedly delivered at the May 9 China-US strategic dialogue and economic talks in Washington, where the Chinese delegation was led by Vice Prime Minister Wang Qishan and State Councilor Dai Bingguo.1 Chinese warnings are implicitly backed up by that nation’s nuclear missiles, including an estimated 66 ICBMs, some capable of striking the United States, plus 118 intermediate-range missiles, 36 submarine-launched missiles, and numerous shorter-range systems.

Support from China is seen by regional observers as critically important for Pakistan, which is otherwise caught in a pincers between the US and India: “If US and Indian pressure continues, Pakistan can say ‘China is behind us. Don’t think we are isolated, we have a potential superpower with us,’” Talat Masood, a political analyst and retired Pakistani general, told AFP.2

The Chinese ultimatum came during the visit of Pakistani Prime Minister Gilani in Beijing, during which the host government announced the transfer of 50 state-of-the-art JF-17 fighter jets to Pakistan, immediately and without cost.3 Before his departure, Gilani had stressed the importance of the Pakistan-China alliance, proclaiming: “We are proud to have China as our best and most trusted friend. And China will always find Pakistan standing beside it at all times….When we speak of this friendship as being taller than the Himalayas and deeper than the oceans it truly captures the essence of our relationship.”4 These remarks were greeted by whining from US spokesmen, including Idaho Republican Senator Risch.

The simmering strategic crisis between the United States and Pakistan exploded with full force on May 1, with the unilateral and unauthorized US commando raid alleged to have killed the phantomatic Osama bin Laden in a compound at Abottabad, a flagrant violation of Pakistan’s national sovereignty. The timing of this military stunt designed to inflame tensions between the two countries had nothing to do with any alleged Global War on Terror, and everything to do with the late March visit to Pakistan of Prince Bandar, the Saudi Arabian National Security Council chief. This visit had resulted in a de facto alliance between Islamabad and Riyadh, with Pakistan promising troops to put down any US-backed color revolution in the kingdom, while extending nuclear protection to the Saudis, thus making them less vulnerable to US extortion threats to abandon the oil-rich monarchy to the tender mercies of Tehran. A joint move by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to break out of the US empire, whatever one may think of these regimes, would represent a fatal blow for the fading US empire in South Asia.
