Chicago - The worlds best city!

Are you staying in downtown?

If yes, then you really do not need a rental car. Everything is on a walking distance. Keep in mind, some of the hotels charge approx. $15 a day for parking during your stay. There is not much to do in the suburbs anyway. It's all happening in downtown. At the most, you will need a car to visit Devon a couple of times. A cab ride will run you $15 one-way from Downtown. TO go to Navy Pier, use the free trolly service that runs non-stop from Michigan Ave.

A rental may be wise with FOUR people. You can always rent a car on arrival. Keep it for a day and see how it goes. If you think you can do without it, then return it to a branch in Downtown. (Avis and most other major companies have locations in downtown).

Do you have a set itinerary and list of places you want to visit?

Note: Most of the shops in Devon are closed on Tuesdays. It's most fun to visit Devon Sat or Sun.

FG, did you notice some new places opening up on devon? Nan Palace and Ambala look good :p That corner mithai shop (tehalo sp?) had good ras malayi.

being the labour day weekend, won't it be risky not renting the car in advance? And I don't think the hotel is in downtown, close to it though I guess.

And haven't really planned the trip out yet(places to visit and shyte), will do in a day or 2.

I don't think there is any penalty for cancelling a rent-a-car reservation at the last minute. As a matter of fact, you don't even have to call or show up if you decide not to rent at the last minute.

Labor day weekend?. That's like 10 light years away. You are coming to Chicago from the east coast or Mogadishu?.

Close to downtown? Why don't you all stay close to Devon then?. You will be at a minutes walk to food and stuff.

did I say labor day.. I meant Memorial day weekend. :D Hardly crossed my teens and I am senile already.

And there might not be any penalty for cancelling a car reservation, but what if they don't have the cars in the class we want at the last minute?

Thanks for all the help though.

Uff :frusty:

I said make the car reservation NOW. And cancel it if you decide not to use.

I am glad you are coming with three other people or else a gullible gal like you won’t survive the jungle.

:silly:

haha! Just having a really blonde week.

But if the car reservation is for 4 days, can I cancel it after a days use? Coz unless we enter chicago, how do we know whether a car is needed or not? Or am I being blonde again :D

You are beyond blonde. Missy, rental car agreements can be terminated early without any penalty. I am very sure of that. So, YES YOU MAY RENT THE CAR AT THE AIRPORT, DRIVE TO HOTEL, KEEP IT FOR A DAY and then return it in DOWNTOWN location without a penalty. And please dont ask me if you have to drive it back to the airport for returning.

Just make sure you fill it with gas before turning it in if you do not buy the gas purchase option. WHich I think you shouldn't.

LOL!

I think we will cancel it after a day if we think it is not needed and is a waste.

Thanks again.

Chicago is a great place for people with flatulence problem. The city is so windy (with the wind coming from the lake) that nobody notices that you let out a big one.

Re: Chicago - The worlds best city!

prolly one of the best cities in the world after lahore but weather in chicago suks.....IT HAS HORRIBLE WEATHER.....since it is windy, it kills you in the winter.....IT IS REALLY BAD IN WINTER....wind chill is horrible..... I lived in chicago for almost 5 years and enjoyed my stay there..however, every winter i used to plan to run away from the city which i finally did!! plus the city has a very slow corporate market..there are not many jobs there.....Chicago downtown is one of the best downtowns in USA....There is no doubt abt it......laikan weather............dont go to chicago in winter....

Re: Chicago - The worlds best city!

My husband and I lived in Chicago just after we married. It was a great city and we had alot of fun there. We were right in downtown on Chestnut St just a few blocks from everything, Magnificent Mile and Cheese Cake Factory-one of our regular haunts. I loved the fact that it was a cosmopolitan city and the downtown was pedestrian for the most part. But there was also a suburban side to the city. It was a nice skyline, but I agree that NY's is more impressive and is THE quintessential American skyline.

Re: Chicago - The worlds best city!

visited Chicago once in December. It was cold, windy and unpleasent.
