chicago truly rocks, I think it is truly one of those cities that have their own distinct personality..other ones being LA, NYC, SF, LV etc..there are plenty of McCities in US ranging detroit and st louis to Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Kansas City and Hartford..by McCity I mean that they are all 90% alike and dont have a real distinct personality.

I like Chicago for the same reason. It is different than other cities like Toronto. I like Toronto too, but both cities are different and as Faisal said, there is no point comparing two cities.

No point in comparing Chicago with other cities even if ya did. It holds it's very own.

NYC has everything you could imagine, but Chicago has everything you could want.

i didnt realize there were so many chicagoans on GS. I was beginning to think this "place" was "ruled" by canadians and europeans.
nice to know there are some chicago lovers here too.

Spicy & Chut-pata Restaurant List (kinda Long) at Devon Ave :yummy:

*As we all know, here in Chicago, Devon Avenue is synonymous with the South Asian community. So what better name to use for the site, than DevonAvenue.com. Almost every Indian and Pakistani in the United States has heard of Devon Avenue. Don’t be mistaken, there are many people around the world that have heard of Devon Avenue as well. Devon Avenue is a street that is rich in culture. Devon Avenue caters to people from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Croatia, and many others. Sections of Devon Avenue have been given secondary names in honor of the people that inhabit the respective areas. Devon Avenue also goes by the names of Gandhi Marg, Mohammed Ali Jinnah Way, and Golda Meier Blvd.

Historically, Devon Avenue has undergone a variety of changes in its 140-year history. First built in the 1850s as Church Road, it was renamed by English settlers for their native county of Devonshire. Later, Devon became the main shopping area for Chicago’s Jewish community. Today, an influx of immigrants has added spice to an already colorful neighborhood. Current census puts the Indo-Pak community around 400,000 in Chicagoland.

aside from the bright lights big city angle, chicago has a lot more to offer. ethinic neighbourhoods..most ppl are familiar with devon, but then you have andersenville for nordic stuff, greektown, and even an arab area.

The parks are great and you can go boating either in lake michigan or fox river, chain o lakes area. Some rivers you can go kayaking in the summer as well.

and best of all you get frozen for no extra cost during winter :sunny:

Not if you are in good hands.

I must say, of all the cities Ive seen, Chicago is probably the best one!!! Its got everything, from the worlds tallest building (Sears) to The Drake!!! The architecture of the city represents the finest pinnacle of modern engineering and architect. I go there occasionally, and its got the best skyline now that Manhatten no longer has the WT towers. Its called the windy city, and if you go there, you'l find out why they say that. Its got a beautiful lake next to it, and oh yeah, its also got a big desi community there, with the best damn junoon concerts!!! The Devon street (called Deewan now) is so desi dominated, that they named a 'Mohammad Ali Jinnah way' and a 'Gandhi margue' there. Ive even heard there is a mujibur-ur-rehman way there???? If you goto the US, please do visit this particular city, and dont forget to goto the Pakistani restaurant 'Sabri Nihari'!!!! Also, dont forget the navy pier, lake shore drv, and michigan avenue and much more! During the Sears tower tour, I was also told that the entire city was burnt long ago, and was rebuilt.

P.S. another reason why Chicago is so good, thats because my good friend Mr. Fraudia the great lives there LOL!!!

Chicago is one hell of a city. The main reason Chicago outclasses NYC is the people.

I noticed people from Chicago were more civilized, maybe because they represent the North, Mid West of America, and not the congested east coast, who thinks the world revolves around them.

Remember one thing, Al Capone still owns Chicago.

Its not that bad actually, just stay out of south side. Watch out for the taxi drivers, its not their fault, they cant help it, for most of them are desi :)

Why rent a car?. Well, I am not sure about your logistics..so cant offer advice. Give me some more details and I can be of better help. WOuld u be staying in a hotel / downtown/ relatives/ suburbs/ how many people, purpose of trip etc.

spock, same cabbies were a pain back in NYC.

FG: It's 4 of us. Getting there by flight and then a rental car to roam around in the city. Staying in a hotel. We are gonna be there for 4 days.

Renting a car is a bad idea?
