hi peeps … iv been really interested in starting a BHA routine .. so iv been reading a lot on different places …
well the most famous person on GS advocating chemical peels is chanda … lol … but the website she suggests to buy them from is US based … and the idea of spending shipping costs is not very attractive … and then it adds up to a very high cost. even if just to get a trial pack.
so i was searching for them somewhere in Europe, preferably netherlands … and i ended up getting lots of hits of the brand “paula’s choice” … you can click on the link above to see it …
this brand offers a completely different kind of regimen. others usually offer 10%, 25% or 35% concentrations, in a liquid form that can be done once a week. but this company only gives 1%, 2%, and an 8% (eight only in the case of glycolic peel). And it comes in the form of a tonic or gel, which has to be used daily, or every other day, or whatever routine ends up being most suitable.
I also read somewhere about this product that 2% is quite harsh on skin, and can dry it up a lot.
so now i am completely confused.
and to further confuse meself … i read an article about darker skinned people to be careful while doing such peels, as they can effect the pigmentation of the skin, and leave it blotchy and uneven .. as the peels may have a permanent lightening effect. i’m a shade “honey” in bobbi-brown liquid foundation.
what to do .. any advice from people already using it …
or people in europe using this … where do you buy it from?
for asian, and other darker skin tones, a light peel will not result in hyperpigmentation.
if you are not suffering from severe acne and or post acne marks, and are just looking to brighten your existing complexion, i would suggest a 3% salicylic peel, 20% glycolic peel, 12.5% TCA peel, and a 35% lactic acid peel. But only after you have consulted with a professional and had 1-2 sessions done by them. The more you know, the less chance you have of messing up.
i have read the book by paula, but honestly, the approach she promotes is not likely to get you great results. The only peel i wouldnt go near is phenol peel, which makes you look like a ghost..and is typically for very mature skin.
All the guidelines for doing a peel at home are on platinumskincare and makeupartistschoice even if you dont buy from them, they are a good source of information on how-tos etc.
i do a 3% peel every two weeks, only because i use sunscreen, and am acne prone. I also use a good moisturizer at bedtime.

haye babes ... u need to explain this a wee bit more ...
you do it every 2 weeks BECAUSE you use sunscreen, and THEREFORE you dont need to use it more often? or is there something else to it? I am also acne prone ... its grown more though ... perhaps due to stress :( ...
right now i just use the clearasil scrub gel and toner ... they r supposed to fight AGAINST acne ... so i doubt that is the reason for my increased acne ... lol ... or maybe it isnt suiting me ... but again .. iv been using this for a while, and increased acne is only recent.
so i need something to fight this darn acne and give a glowing skin...
for acne go with salicylic acid 2% products or benzoyl peroxide 10% but BP might dry ur skin more so need some gr8 moiturizer. u don't really need peels to fight with mild acne. there's lot more u can do like using face wash with SA, tea tree oil moisturizer and retin A gel.
the minute u get those pimples dry them up with tea tree oil/ lavendar oil or Benzoyl peroxide 10%. use an anti biotic or cortizone cream and some scar cream to remove scars as soon as ur pimple dries up. Use aspirin+ honey mask once a week to keep ur face clear. using Apple cider vinegar diluted with water as a toner is also helpful. i mean there's lots u can do b4 jumping to peels.
faraah if u are breaking out....just crush a supplin tablet n apply it ...i swear by it ...it has finished off by acne ....ull see the result in two days....hope this helps....

Defo agree with the bit in bold, I was told many doctors will only perform phenol peels under sedation it's that intense..
how/where can i get a retinA gel? i’ve been trying to look for it, but ppl at the stores dont understand me i cant speak dutch, and these dutchie stores dont carry all brands
what abot benzoyl peroxide? where can i get it, and how is it used?
honey on my face also makes me break out.
u might hav to google online for ur options Farrah. retin A is mostly obtained via dermatologist's prescription. even in canada u can't just get it from pharmacy. So ur best bet is online shopping. One such site is Alldaychemist.com. they r based in India. which means u can get it from Pak too maybe.
As for BP again chk around ur local stores for products carrying it or online. Alldaychemist has equivalent brand persol 2.55 n 5%. i hav proactiv's repairing lotion with BP n i sometimes use it just for pimples but proactive is just waste of money as they force u to buy whole system rather than individual products.
But even if u don't find it look for tea tree oil. dip a cotton bud in it n treat pimples with it. it dries them up very fast.
if language is a barier may be going to a derm can be more convinient.
