how much effective are these two treatments for acne scarring?
What are other available options, if there are any, to be rid of acne scars? My appointment with dermatologist is a month away and I’m getting anxious to know more about the options I may have.
^ I agree. Getting a chemical peel done once will fade scars considerably, but you have to get a few sessions to completely fade them out. But they are helpful and I noticed a dramatic difference in the complexion. It looks more fresh and even toned. BUT GO TO A DERMATOLOGIST! Do not attempt doing chemical peels at home because you can seriously damage your face. A dermatologist can examine your skin and recommend the best type of chemical peel and the appropriate strength. Keep in mind, that you MUST wear a sunscreen after a chemical peel because it makes ur skin more sensitive to the sun and not doing so can lead to hyperpigmentation (dark colored patches). Although, sunscreen should be applied regardless whenever u go out in the sun, lol. Go to your derm, and get it done girl:)
Definitely go to a dermatologist and whatever you do...wear sunscreen!!!!!!!!!
If you decide to do a peel, you cannot go without sunscreen otherwise a peel will do you no good. Your skin might be in an even worse state if you get sun damage so remember this. I know we all hate sunscreen because its soooo white but here is how I use it.
Get the sunscreen by Clinique, its a lot less white-ish looking and mix it with your foundation. Even if there is a very slight white caste...you will be fine in a few minutes. It blends right in.
Great pieces of info...Thanks a lot for your inputs, Psquared and Redvelvet! I will keep all these points in mind :)...I've not seen my face with an even complexion for very long...Can't wait to get some help in this regard!
U're derm wud tell u what kind of peel u need.. if u have active acne it'll be salicylic and to lighten marks it'll be glycolic :) u're therapist will cleanse u're skin and prep it for the treatment, she'll apply vaseline to the sensitive area's such as the corners of u're eyes, nose, mouth and then apply the peel. U're derm shud be watching over u with a magnifying mirror to see when it shud be removed.
U're skin will be neutralised and a cold compress wud be applied to u're face for 10 mins.. then sunscreen/sunblock and u're good to go :)
Wear sunscreen/sunblock of a HIGH SPF factor after both the treatments! Wear it 20 mins before stepping out in the sun..and even when u're at home (indoors)
ive had tca and SA (jessners) peels done .t hey were pretty effective but i peeled for about 10 days and do not pick OR YOU WILL SCAR. basicall days 2-8 you CANNOT leave the house wihtout looking freaky but its worth it. chandha (the girl was flawless skin, m'A) does tca's, glyc's, etc A LOT too !
I had one session of a microdermabrasion done before I got married and I noticed an immediate effect. My skin glowed and was super soft and silky. I wish I had gone back for another one but my wedding was only 3 days away and the beautician recommended that I not get one so soon before my big day because of any foreseen consequences. But I would totally recommend it.
OK, now I’m really hopeful since everyone here had a good experience with chemical peel..So, I guess this is the way to go for me too…Thanks to everyone for helping me making my mind
^ If you go to a salon njgal, they might be a bit cheaper but I wouldnt go to a salon. I would go to dermatologist or a skincare clinic...you pay more but its safer.
Each of my peels cost me about $120 and Ive had about 5 of them done so far.
But I also had a lot of acne that just sprouted up out of nowhere all over my face. It was horrible and sooooooo stressful! You cannot imagine what I went through...I tried all sorts of expensive creams and even Proactive and Retin A.
Peels did the trick. I get a couple around the time I have my period but thats it.

Great to know that you've come out of this horrible face, PS...I totally understand how stressful it can be...Just one question, does it keep your future break-outs at bay too?
Please don't get it done at any salon, ONLY a licensed practitioner! A bad chemical peel can lead to permanent scarring..which is really dark and patchy known as a "chemical burn"
Go to a well-known clinic, during a peel u're derm shud be right there..as he/she is the one that needs to instruct the therapist to remove and neutralize the peel..
Make sure they try an allergy patch, make sure they prep u're skin, make sure u face no discomfort, (feels like a mild bleach) and make sure u're derm is watching u closely..

aw pf :)...yeah i had mild acne as a teenager...now..Alhamdulilah..the scarring has gone..and also...if you take care of the scars..ie..use sunscreen, and dont pick at them...they should be not that bad...once the scar has heeled..then only you can do the peeling...
Don't go to a salon. I've heard stories of them messing skin up and using the wrong strength of acids for chemical peels. Go to a certified dermatologist. A chemical peel/microdermabrasion simply exfoliates your skin, fades scars, and gives you a more fresher brighter complexion. It doesn't prevent breakouts. Breakouts can be caused due to various reasons such as hormonal (PMS), stress, lack of water/vitamins/nutrients, poor cleansing habits, use of wrong skin products, genetics, what have you.
My sister recently got laser treatment done for her acne at Lana Gray. And MashaAllah her skin looks soooo much better. The price is not so bad (110-180). The derm told her that it will prevent future acne to a good extent and the next time that she might break out is if she gets pregnant during the future and that is due to hormonal changes of pregnancy. I've heard that laser shrinks the oil glands, thus reducing breakouts. My sister's best friend and neighbor struggled with acne, blemishes, and redness for years. And then she got laser done in Thailand (where its even cheaper) and I was surprised at how clear her skin looked. I'm not sure if laser works for everyone. Not all treatments suit everybody. But i've become interested in the procedure. Right now my spots are fading gradually, so I'm gonna give it some time. But if they get worse.......I'm gonna look into laser treatment. Just go to your derm and find out your options. If you struggle with acne, then ask your doctor what the best long term solution is.
The place where i work for experience i see a lot of women coming there to get microdermabrasion..but for some reason i haven't seen any results...
This woman who works with me got some kind of peel...and she looks good she was kind of dark and a bit of scaring and roughness on the face went away after that peel..i forget which one it was..and the second time she got it she looked even better i am thinking of getting one as well...as soon as i ask her the name.
I've been considering this for a long time but never had the guts to get it done. I've got scars on my face from bad acne when going through my teen years. They don't look horrible but are noticeable. Peels just seem so strong. But maybe I will suck it up and finally get at least one done. I still break out occasionally which is a real pain, esp. being an adult.
