Okay, my mother is bugging me and she wont leave me alone until I find the answer.
You guys know what cheekoo is right - that fruit?
Okay, what is the name of the fruit in English?
My parents were trying to communicate with some Cuban down here who can’t speak much English (right, you can imagine how that conversation went), and the Cuban managed to convince them the name of the fruit is Nespera. Now nespera is the spanish name for what is called yellow plum. I’m looking at pictures of the yellow plum, and it doesn’t look much like a chicoo.
At any rate, my parents brought home the tree, planted it. It sits outside my window, and its grown quite big now, but its given no fruit.
I asked the other day if its really a cheekoo tree or if the Cuban played them. My mother has been nagging me since (why do I open my mouth?).
So if anyone has information on the Cheekoo tree, please let me know. Thanks.
sapota is a yummy tropical fruit which grows on trees. brown fuzzy skin, soft brown flesh with a mildly carmelized taste, and some funky hard black seeds.
Sapodilla/Sapota (chickoo) ::
Sapodilla fruit or the chickoo is an oval fruit with a rough brown skin and looks like a potato. The golden honey-orange coloured flesh has an aromatic flavour of vanilla and banana. Scoop out the shiny black seeds from its center and eat the fruit as it is or turn it into a delectable milk shake with cardamom seeds for added flavour.
From Google
I had some fruit thinking it was kiwi but with all these explanations it could have been anything. Looked like a kiwi without the fuzz, greenish brown skin, inside was yellow, sweet pulp not bitter at all, the taste reminded me a bit of mango I think it had black seeds in it too. Dunno what the hell it was, but it was good.
