Cheekoo

Re: Cheekoo

^ cheekoo means child in street arabic..

Re: Cheekoo

Ahhh my fav fruit. So sweet and yummy...we had few trees in Pakistan in our house. I am surprised so many people don't know what it is. I hope everyone knows what Shareefa is??

Re: Cheekoo

yeah, a nice shy girl in a hijab. btw JP, did you ever try rambutans and durians?

Re: Cheekoo

Did the cuban guy talk like scarface?!?!?!?

Re: Cheekoo

Thats right queer…its not for you to eat and taste  Yes i have tried rambutans a lot since thats all they eat in east Asia…they are good and taste like leechy. But Durian?? Big no no…that big stinky fruit which is considered a delicacy there. I don’t know how people can eat it. I used to enter stores with my nose covered so i won’t smell it.

Re: Cheekoo

JP, you forget the smell once you bite into one. so worth it. one of these weekends, i am going rambutan and durian hunting into indonesian stores near chinatown. the canned stuff is not half as good.

Re: Cheekoo

PCG the chekoo/sapota tree needs some other type of tree planted next to it in order to get fruit, I have a couple of them in my home,

the other tree is kinda strange, no trunk, straight shoots from the ground, with small leaves and the matrix projects towards each leaf.

Re: Cheekoo

I used to call someone Cheekoo

haaYe kiyaa yaad dilaa diyaa… childhood memories

Re: Cheekoo

Brute, can you send me a picture of them, or at least find out the name of the supporting tree?

Re: Cheekoo

I heard that the Chickoo tree gives fruit once in a 5 years...

Re: Cheekoo

I don’t see jamuN, baiR or shehtoot there…

Re: Cheekoo

you dont need any companion tree for sapota. we had a big sapota tree back home that bore fruits every year (not once in 5 yrs like someone said).

we also had a scrawny 3 feet tall stem-grafted sapota plant which would produce a few really big sapota fruits. again, no companion tree bs.

Re: Cheekoo

I agree with queer, we had two trees and both had cheekos every year without any other tree support. I have never even heard of this method.
We also had this huge Shehtoot tree sreading its branches to 4 houses in different directions and everyone used to take advantage of that.

Re: Cheekoo

Quite Wrong. And I can say thatt because I had two cheekoo trees in my home for about 10 years, when back in Karachi
