Re: Check out this kurti I received.
^ that $170 includes $169 for my new boots right? :halo:
Re: Check out this kurti I received.
$170 ![]()
u can buy a really really really kewl four piece suit with that in Pakistan.
btw this starkly thing is every where in in PAkistan…these days u can also get to see them on any average lawn suits. ![]()
btw on this specific kurti i would prefer to have sherwani neck rather than having V-neck cuz sherwani neck looks more gentle and sophisticated.
Zobia - Calling this kurti "starkly" is kind of rude. I am located in US and do not have access to all the good deals you have in Pakistan. Hence, I am sharing some things on this board to learn and meet new venues to shop for nice things.
how about this one http://mariab.com/pro_pics/67.jpg at Rs 44000/- or US$543 as per website.
i am sure somebody would be able to make that one way cheaper and similar may be available in less but does it make above one smething like starkly or cheap.
if she had bought it at $170 yes it may be expensive and yes may be she can get something better as there are always better things to find or i may not consider it for my wife may be way out of our reach but it doesnt make it starkly because almost all elements are perfectly done so thats make it alright if she can buy them.
Thanks Junaid! Good point.

i appologize, but if u go to Pakistan then u will understand y i called it "sparkly".
though, i am also not living in Pakistan, but we can always asks our relative back there to get us something good.
mariab, or any other designer are brand labels and they will charge u for their showroom, locations n bla bla....even though the fabric they use is sophisticated...but still Pakistani designer are not up to the level of armani or DVF where they have a customized fabric.
...so u can get the same fabric and same work done in cheaper prices in any big city of Pakistan.
the market price of this dress is around Rs. 1500-2400, iff it is not showcased in mariab's showroom.
i rather suggest that u save this money, buy a ticket , go to Pakistan, and buy countless dresses like these. :D
Re: Check out this kurti I received.
Is the word being used here sparkly or starkly?
Re: Check out this kurti I received.
Err not everyone is lucky enough to have relatives send things or be able to go on frequent trips to pak.
the market price of this dress is around Rs. 1500-2400, iff it is not showcased in mariab's showroom.
although Mariab's price is tooooooooo much but to consider it at 1500 - 2400 i dont think we are doing any justice to the design, no way you can get similar made in my view just fabric cost may surpass that range.
Re: Check out this kurti I received.
and what is starkly?
and what is starkly?
bluntly or sternly plain
although Mariab's price is tooooooooo much but to consider it at 1500 - 2400 i dont think we are doing any justice to the design, no way you can get similar made in my view just fabric cost may surpass that range.
on average, women wear the same dress 3-4 times so i honestly believe its useless to spend that much money.
but if u ask my view as an artist than if its a single piece, and yet not copied by some else than its priceless....per kia kerin PAkistan main sub kuch chalta hai. :D
Re: Check out this kurti I received.
^ if it's not been copied yet..its too ugly and noone wants it then
after al imitation is sincerest form of flattery :D
honestly, lub ur point sara, even though i did touch the phenomenon of pricelessness :k:
Re: Check out this kurti I received.
priceless or valueless?
I dont believe that there is true “originality”, a designer may come up with an original design or new color combo (like HSY with red and blue back in 06 has become a big hit now), but if its a good design it will be copied…hence no such thing as original anymore.
Re: Check out this kurti I received.
^ priceless...cuz if mariab is asking 44K then there must be something in there.
but as i said we here are talking about Pakistan, where competition is very tight, and u can easily get its tailoring and very nice or better fabric on much cheaper bargains.
lara, i only want to acknowledge that on several occasions these labels rip u off, cuz the fact is bargaining is in our blood.
ps. its sparkly, n not starkly.
Re: Check out this kurti I received.
I think designers ask for high prices cause they charge you for their ideas, they charge you for their creativity. Maria B had an anarkali dress which was priced at $1400 where as the exact same thing and exact same fabric I got copied for $550 so it's not about something being there ... it's about the fact that it's a "designer" product.

Zobia,
You had written “starkly” above, not “sparkly.” Two different meanings. I would not have taken offense to sparkly. typos.
