change the route of the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor.

Re: change the route of the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor.

yeah whatever dont let the door hit you on your way out! I didnt start any thread but right here I did bust your crap. No one is saying Punjab is haven, call him Shobaz or whatever, he delivers, Punjab is better and transformed under leadership of Shahbaz while others are crying and making everything in to provincial issue. Problem with us PMLN supporters is that we dont stop people like you on Cyber world enough but at least for me enough is enough and I will not let some so called pseudo intellacts to roam free and make every thing about an elected Govt into some negative crap. There are issues like every where but taking extreme positions of choking a province, calling a party a certain province based party, trying to color every damn thing in to provincial issues and whining all the time wont go unnoticed.

Re: change the route of the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor.

Again. You missed the main point. If CPEC is so wonderful and equally planned, then PMLN should just release the documents to KPK that confirms these details? Why these 27 economic zone report is with the media but not the government? If the issue was that light and irrelevant, honestly PTI's worst opponents in KPK who are also PMLN's allies won't be standing on the same page. So you really need to understand how serious the reservations must be if all parties are standing together. One party can be mistaken and stubborn but not the whole group! So admit the fact somewhere along the lines PMLN has made serous mistakes and betrayal if the entire political establishment of a province is so unconvinced and misinformed.

There is a thing called transparency, and PMLN needs to start employing that. Quit thinking that professionals will shut up by reading a romantic reports in the media while they still haven't seen the copies of legally binding documents that confirm these details. You can be an angel, but if you are needlessly hiding things, of course the other person will doubt your intention and activities.

No one is asking about "throwing" money at smaller provinces. The word is investment. If industrial growth cannot be achieved overnight then there are plenty of areas where Federal government can invest in smaller provinces even in a compensatory ways to make up for economic disparities. Education, Health, Housing, Transport, Security, small businesses, Tourism or small term energy plans. If there is honest communications, political will and sincerity, a lot of these issues can be settled. Only one meeting had been called after 3 years of constant pleas to settle the net hydel profit share, and you think there is nothing wrong with it? Malicious intentions should not be assumed when both parties are arch rivals where one party humiliates the other in street protests and the other tries to get its revenge through the system by virtue of being in the power.

KPK hasn't been paid for its due since last 8 years. A naturally poor province that gets hit by major terrorism and natural calamities every year, how much longer can they wait? You think it's a right attitude? Just realise how real the pressure is on KPK government. They cannot plan their budgets properly, their development work is stalled because they haven't received their dues from only industry that creates some wealth. From last years's flood and earthquakes alone, some 800 more schools have been damaged, adding it to 1000s already damaged by Taliban, and in such extreme desperate situation, is it fair to choke their funds?

Most of KPK's human capital is residing out of KPK, It is either settled in the developed parts of Pakistan like Karachi, Lahore and Pindi or working in the Gulf states. The guy who brought Peshawar's PSL team and have vowed to build stadiums in KPK is actually a Pashtun businessman from Karachi. So that sums up my point. I am not talking about collective progress of ethnicity here, I am talking about local employment. There is a difference.

PMLN knows very well that if KPK gets ahead of Punjab, PTI simply won't shut up. They will base their entire 2018 campaign on KPK's success stories. So they have found a perfect way to ensure that PTI doesn't achieve that aim. CPEC is one issue, but blocking payment of NHP and security funds is perfect way to ensure that an ambitious and excited rabbit doesn't cross the final line.

Re: change the route of the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor.

@Med911,

What do you think of the following report? (Click on the heading for full text)

Still want to believe no political victimisation and revenge prone mentality exists in PMLN led centre government towards PTI labeled KPK?

Is this whole idea of ‘making promises’ and not keeping them a useful and tolerable practice?

Re: change the route of the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor.

Im sure there are politics at work here, and no one claims Pakistani politics are clean, but as far as CPEC is concerned the issues raised by KP dont seem to have a basis in fact. They may or may not be justified in the suspicion but for now, there doesnt seem to be a anything to those suspicions.

Wait and see I suppose.

ISLAMABAD: The government expects 2016 to be the take-off year for the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar port, with a 100% increase in cargo-handling and start of the free economic zone.

Ports & Shipping Minister Kamran Michael stated this in a written reply submitted in the National Assembly in response to a question raised by PPP’s Mahreen Razaque Bhutto last week regarding the port’s role in the country’s development during the past three years.

http://i1.tribune.com.pk/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Haseeb-Gardezi.jpg

Michael said that during the past two and a half years, besides handling limited government subsidised imports of urea, for the first time the Gwadar port started containerised export from May 2015.

“So far six ships have discharged 35 empty 40-feet containers and exported 25 loaded 40-feet containers carrying 675 tons of frozen fish to the international market.”

He added that during the past three years around 40 ships docked at the Gwadar port and discharged 1.6 million tons of urea.
**

Hard times**

“Lack of railroad connectivity, unavailability of water, power and gas resources, and absence of required commercial and industrial facilities in Gwadar have hampered full utilisation of prospects of greater trade and economic development of Pakistan,” read Michael’s response.

Under the concession agreement of 2013, it said a private company has been rehabilitating unused and outdated port equipment, machinery and facilities, finalising the port development plan, and enhancing infrastructure and superstructures to improve port operations.
**

Hope**

The minister said that under the CPEC, it has been planned to construct the Gwadar East Bay Expressway with Chinese assistance to connect the port with the M-8 motorway and N-85 highway. “Thus, Gwadar shall have its direct link to Ratodero/Sukkur and Quetta through Turbat, Panjgur and Surab.”

To address water, electricity and gas issues, early harvest projects have been approved under the CPEC and would be completed within three to five years, he added.

Similarly, the Gwadar Port Authority has signed sister-port relationship memorandums of understanding with the Qingdao and Zhuhai ports of China and with the Chabahar port of Iran. “The port operator is finalising the free zone master plan and it is expected to start during March-April 2016.”

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Thursday said that 76 percent work of Neelum-Jhelum power plant has been completed adding that its first unit would start supplying 242 MW electricity to the national grid in July 2017.

"By the end of December 2017 the remaining three units having capacity to generate 242 mw each would start supply electricity to national gird , he said this during a visit to the Neelum Jhelum Hydro Power project.

The Minister said that the project was delayed due to flawed planning of previous governments.
He said completion of the project would help overcome power shortage in the country.

Abid Sher Ali said that as per promise made by the PML-N during its election campaign the power shortage would be ended in the country by the March 2018.

He said despite financial constants, the present government continued work on the Neelum-Jhelum Hydro Power project and arranged finances of its earlier completion.

The Minister said that to overcome power shortage, the government had initiated work on many powers projects across the country.

Chief Executive Officer of the project Lt (R) General Muhammad Zubair in a briefing said that over Rs 189 billion had been spent on the project till date.

“The project would be completed with in the given time period” he added.

He said speedy work is in progress for laying transmission lines.

He said 50 percent work to upgrade transmission lines had been completed across the country while work on the remaining transmission lines is in progress.

He regretted that all the previous governments had not initiated work to upgrade transmission lines.

The CEO said that due to delay and non serious attitude of the past governments, the cost of the project had jumped from Rs 290 billion to Rs 404 billion.

China Seen Funding Half of Pakistan $1 Billion Clean Power Push

Anindya Upadhyay

January 27, 2016 — 5:07 PM P

  • Pakistani officials expect to add 800 megawatts in 2016
  • Deal signed in 2015 will channel money from China for years

Pakistan expects half of the $1 billion it’s seeking for clean-energy projects this year to come from China after an agreement between the two nations aimed at helping the government in Islamabad develop its infrastructure for years to come.

Syed Aqeel Hussain Jafri, director of policy at Pakistan’s Alternative Energy Development Board, said 90 percent of the money for renewable power plants will come from overseas, with China the biggest benefactor. Excluding hydro, the ambition is to add about 800 megawatts of renewables this year, double the current installed capacity.

Pakistan relies on hydro-electric units and traditional fossil-fuel plants for almost all of its 25 gigawatts of generation capacity, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Many of its 183 million people suffer routine blackouts. Last year, the two nations signed a $45 billion program known as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to upgrade Pakistani infrastructure.

“It’s easier to get Chinese financing due to CPEC so we expect China’s investments to continue propelling the clean energy space in future as well,” Jafri said.

The deal has bolstered investor optimism in Pakistan and has the potential to lift long-term growth, according to a report by the World Bank. The agreement would boost investment in energy, port and transportation projects across Pakistan in the next few years.
**

Wind Capacity**

Pakistan currently has about 308 megawatts of wind-energy capacity through six projects working in the Sindh province, according to Jafri. That may grow to 800 megawatts by year-end as eight projects in the same region get commissioned. The official said overseas development banks probably would provide much of the remainder of the funding needed.

The Quaid e Azam solar park in Punjab province will add 300 megawatts of capacity to the existing 100 megawatts by March or April, he said. Chinese firm Zonergy Co Ltd. will set up 900 megawatts in this 1-gigawatt solar park.

“Renewable energy in Pakistan has attracted maximum investments compared with all sectors at $2 billion over the last two years, of which 90 percent has been foreign investment,” Jafri said.

Re: change the route of the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor.

Ok let's turn the tables. What is PTI doing for KPK? They have plenty of funds. How are they using them? All I've visibly seen is the dharna's.

I'm sure they can do better than that.

Re: change the route of the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor.

Well first and foremost I dont know desert bird but I can tell you that PMLN propaganda machinery (if any) wouldnt be looking for votes on Gup shup :) If you ask me, I think desert bird is like myself an avid PMLN supporter. The issue I think is that some how the persona of a PMLN supporter is some one who is not educated, cant speak or write english, etc etc. So its natural to think of the ones like us who are as much or more educated than an average person etc. may belong to some propaganda machinery. Having said that, If there is a PMLN propaganda machinery rep here, I think I like to get paid for the amount of work I do on part of my beloved party. Contact me if any one you are reading this...

GE supplies 9HA Gas Turbines to Pakistan power projects

US-based technology giant General Electric (GE) has won orders for two power projects in Pakistan and Australia.
The first order requires GE to supply two 9HA gas turbines, one Alstom-engineered steam turbine and associated equipment for the 1.2GW Balloki combined-cycle power plant in Pakistan.

The units will be delivered to Harbin Electric International Company (HEI), which is responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the facility.

National Power Park Management Company (NPPMCL) is the holding company for the Balloki facility.

NPPMCL CEO Rashid Mehmood Langrial said: “The Balloki plant is part of our game-changing approach to providing sustainable, efficient energy to meet Pakistan’s growing demand for power.”

GE had also been picked to deliver two 9HA gas turbines and one Alstom-engineered steam turbine for the proposed 1.1GW Bhikki combined-cycle power plant in Pakistan.
Both the new power projects are expected to be commissioned in 2017, and are aimed at meeting the 5GW energy shortfall in Pakistan.

GE Power gas power systems president and CEO Joe Mastrangelo said: "GE has made a long-term commitment to helping Pakistan meet its development needs.

"The Balloki project builds on our strong partnerships in the power sector and our recent acquisition of Alstom’s power and grid businesses.

“This project represents the value that Alstom’s steam turbine technology is bringing to customers as part of our broader GE product offerings. Our HA gas turbines and complementary steam turbine are well integrated to deliver superior performance, efficiency and flexibility.”

“The Balloki plant is part of our game-changing approach to providing sustainable, efficient energy to meet Pakistan’s growing demand for power.”

The firm had signed key agreements with Pakistan, which includes a memorandum of understanding to develop energy resources in the country in order to help it achieve a projected demand of 54,000MW within 2020.
The second order has, however, been awarded to Clarke Energy for supply and installation of the 2.6MW 616 diesel engine from
