CHANGE MUST TAKE PLACE / WHAT SHOULD BE THE NEW STRUCTURE OF PCB?

Change must now take place at the helm of cricket in Pakistan. full stop.
Some serious changes in our cricket setup must be made, and Mr. Musharaf needs to set up a real board, not an adhoc one, Like Ramiz as Chairman and no more bureaucaratic lalloos in the system. If the current traumatic events don’t spur these changes, nothing will.

Ramiz had said, “heads will roll”, but one rolled without any PCB intervention. Woolmer is gone. Inzi is retired. We will probably sink against ZIM again…
I am almost at the point of giving up this sport completely.
Cricket has become too competitive to keep believing that kids from the street will be able to win championships against these almost “factory” made teams.

Re: Change must take place at the helm - otherwise there is no point in it

agree, similar thread on this topic called letteh rebuilding start.
100% correct waisay, the galli ki team ka shahzada mentality and approach is just not going to give consistent results... unless being mediocre consistently is something desirable

Re: Change must take place at the helm - otherwise there is no point in it

the big dummies....
lets just forget it....
FROM DAWN E-PAPER SPORT PAGE 2

LAHORE, March 18: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has no intention to hold the captain, players, coach or selectors accountable for the debacle in the World Cup.
The PCB issued a press release over the dismal performance in which it only hinted about adopting a future strategy to improve the cricket structure, but there is no programme to deal with those, who were involved in the shocking ouster.
While commenting on the team's poor performance in the World Cup, the chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Dr Nasim Ashraf on Sunday expressed deep disappointment.
He pointed out that the Board and he himself were as disturbed over the result as the rest of the nation".
Dr Nasim said that having taken over as chairman of the ad hoc committee less than six months back he and other members of the Board had decided to maintain continuity and stability as the best option to strengthen the team. Every effort was therefore made to achieve the same in the short term context. He further added that as he had promised earlier, a comprehensive new structure and plan for the development of cricket in Pakistan would be launched after the World Cup".

Re: Change must take place at the helm - otherwise there is no point in it

as the thread suggest, there is no way we can improve with this attitude by PCB. They dont to hold anyone accountable because if they do, then team will blame them for poor selection, poor support and so on... This statement is just their 'job-saving' efforts.

There is much needed and it is needed from top of the cream to the bottom.

Re: Change must take place at the helm - otherwise there is no point in it

Done.

Re: Change must take place at the helm - otherwise there is no point in it

^ I hope the news is true...
What a breath of fresh air it will be if he leaves and we get Imran Khan in at the helm and heck we will even live with Ramiz Raja.

Re: Change must take place at the helm - otherwise there is no point in it

Make PCB chief meaningless. Strengthen the processes and instutions, rather than the individuals. Selection process is the key. If the team has better players with better backups, the whole thing starts to work. Overtime, it gives better players and better results.

Re: Change must take place at the helm - otherwise there is no point in it

^ Now lets see who gets the reins...
Hope its someone decent who knows cricket and can manage without too much politics...

Re: Change must take place at the helm - otherwise there is no point in it

Well well well...
Now we can talk about a new FRESH structure for cricket in Pakistan.
Chairman:?? (appointed at first but should seek vote of confidence as soon as board is finalized)
Board : Elected ex cricketers and sharp managers with known recognition in Pakistan
Ch. Selection Committee: Chairman of Board should be chairman of Selection committee
Committee : appointed by Board and Chairman.
Coaches for Academy:
Head Coach
Bowling Coaches
Batting Coaches
Fielding Coaches
Pitch Curators (may be a foreign curator or on loan from ICC to make a few pitches that are bouncy and fast as well.
Academy G. Manager:
Appointed - Some one from SA or Aus. who can create a best fit model in Pakistan

Team Coach: ????

The much needed overhauling of Pakistan Cricket

The much needed overhauling

Since the moronic PCB head has resigned and the lazy Inzimam has seen the mirror at last. This is the time to do the much needed overhauling. We have missed the opportunity back in 1996, then again in 2003. This is the right time to get everything straight. General Tauqeer Zia had the golden chance, full power and money to launch the over hauling. But again, everyone is busy filling their pockets and get their bhanjay-bhateejay selected.

A. Make a successful business and administration personality for the top job who has passion and love for the game as well. That should be the first priority. I suggest well known cricket commentator **Chishti Mujahid **as he is well suited for this kind of mega project. Once things are under-control and introduce new constitution of the board and remove the patron-in-chief’s PUKH for good.

B. Launch a technical committee in which hire a team of professional cricketers who will not only be advisors to the chief on pure cricketing matters, but also design, monitor, do selections and administer the NCA, U15, U17, U19 and grass root level cricket in Pakistan. Hire coaches for these programs which will do professional coaching in each region of the country on minors. Then each of the U teams will have senior coaches to polish the youth who are sent from junior levels. We are looking around 20 people in this regards. Our openers and Watta bowling problems can only be rectify this way, when we have good ex players working with kidz from age 13 to 19. Also pitch curators should be under this technical team. Each region must have alteast 6 bouncy pitches. Atleast two for the U15. Assign Goals on half-yearly basis for all coaches and get their results evaluated by the technical committee. A KPMG (type of) consultant should be hired to help both technical and administration team define processes and goals and enforce transparency.

C. Hire a professional marketing team and an administration team (get rid of gannday andday right away) who are extremely professional and know how to do business on international level.

D. Hire an educated very well organized and well spoken Team Manager who can discipline all players.

E. All players from U17 and above must pass ‘rules of cricket’ exams which should be on 2 levels. Basic and advance.

F. Players selected in Pakistan A team must pass these exams, attend professional courses on inter-personal skills (not necessarily English language, but to be presentable as flag bearer for the country), doping and man management and leadership for Captains/Vice-captains.

When you have money and fine cricketing brains in the country, use them in the best way to rectify the long time problems this country has faced in last one decade.

As for the current team do the following as part of overhauling.

Now get rid of Akmal, Nazir, Rana, Shabbir and Azhar.

Throw Bari out of the window, LITTERALLY!!!!

Keep Razzaq, Afridi, Akhtar, Hafeez and Kaneria on watch list. Bring Abdul Rehman and Mansoor Amjad so Kaneria and others come out of the comfort zone.

Modz can you please make this sticky. All future proposals can be posted here in this thread. Thanks.

Pakistan cricket chief ‘resigns’ - FROM CNN

**POSTED: 1148 GMT (1948 HKT), March 20, 2007 **

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Pakistan cricket chief Naseem Ashraf has offered his resignation and three of his selection panel have quit as the fallout from their disastrous World Cup exit continued on Tuesday.
Ashraf told state President Pervez Musharraf, who is the patron of the Pakistan cricket board (PCB), that he wanted to be relieved of his duties.
“Ashraf faxed his resignation last night and it’s now up to the patron whether he accepts it or not,” PCB communications director Ahsan Malik told The Associated Press.
Pakistan lost to minnows Ireland on Saturday and the following day coach Bob Woolmer died after being found unconscious in his hotel room in Jamaica.
Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq also said he would step down and retire from one-day internationals after their final World Cup group match against Zimbabwe on Wednesday.
A Pakistan Cricket Board statement earlier on Tuesday said chief selector Wasim Bari had tendered his resignation and those of the rest of the national selection committee to the board.
The statement said: “The committee’s tenure was up to the 2007 World Cup and that it shares responsibility for the team’s performance in the World Cup.”
Bari told private AAJ television: "Our team has not performed well and for this reason the entire selection committee has resigned.
“I had sent the resignations two days ago to the PCB, but the chairman was touring interior Sindh (province). I spoke to him briefly.”
Bari told the television station he had “heard about” Ashraf’s resignation – which several newspapers here reported without giving a source – but could not confirm it.
President Musharraf in a television interview late Monday also expressed his disappointment. “I am as dejected and disappointed, as the whole nation, on the performance of the cricket team,” he said.
Protests erupted in several Pakistan cities in the immediate aftermath of the defeat, one of the biggest upsets in cricket history, but became muted once the tragic news of Woolmer’s passing became known.

**Pakistan look for new leaders - **From BBC
By Paresh Soni
BBC Sport in Jamaica

Pakistan cricket has been thrown into disarray after a week in which the team suffered tragedy off the field and disappointment on it.
Defeat by Ireland meant they could not qualify for the Super 8 stage of the World Cup.

The following day, coach Bob Woolmer, whose tenure was due to end in June, died after being found unconscious in his hotel room and Inzamam-ul-Haq announced he would be stepping down as captain.
In addition, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Naseem Ashraf and the selectors offered their resignations.
So where does cricket in Pakistan go from here?
Former player and chairman of selectors Aamir Sohail believes a radical overhaul is required, with more clarity in the appointments of board members and selectors.
“The job of PCB chairman has to be advertised. The time has come where you can no longer get somebody from the Foreign Office, without any experience of sport,” Sohail told BBC Sport.
"They have to look for professionals who have knowledge of the game, the politics of the game and how to deal with that, and then things will be smoother.
"Whoever has the best ideas for reviving cricket in Pakistan should be given the task for three or four years, but should be questioned on what they have done in that time.
“They can’t just tender their resignations and walk away. Whoever is responsible should be answerable.”
Ehsan Qureshi, a senior sports reporter for the Associated Press of Pakistan, has been covering the game for 25 years.
He believes senior players are pandered to too often, and become too comfortable because there is no serious competition for places.
That, he says, is down to youngsters being denied opportunities and the poor quality of domestic cricket.
“We have failed to develop a big pool of players for the national team,” said Qureshi.
"The basic problem is player power - the captain has his likes and dislikes and the same goes for the PCB and the Pakistani media.
“Everyone is working in their self-interests and we don’t have a competitive first-class system. The top players rarely play for their teams so the young players aren’t tested against quality players.”
Woolmer was the second foreigner to coach the team after another Englishman Richard Pybus.
There have been suggestions that a Pakistani is likely to succeed him, a move which would be backed by Sohail.
“Most of the players come from humble backgrounds, haven’t finished schooling and struggle to speak English,” the 40-year-old, now a television commentator, explained.
“On that basis I think it would be a good idea to have a Pakistani coach but they have to be good - you can only appoint competent people who know the game.”
Qureshi says the new man needs to be a strong-minded disciplinarian.
"It is a difficult task, you have to pick a powerful man who can dictate his own terms and not be dictated to by players.
“There is a lot of money on offer so there will be plenty of people interested but we need someone who will not only improve the players technically, but have structural planning for the future.”
Vice-captain Younis Khan, who has stood in for Inzamam in the past, is favourite to land the role of skipper and Sohail believes there are few alternatives.
"He’s been groomed and is the long-term answer. If you see the composition of the side, Mohammad Yousuf might not play for that much longer and there’s a question mark over whether he is fit enough to play one-day cricket.
“Apart from that there is no-one else who would be an automatic choice in the team and could compete with Younis.”
Qureshi, however, believes they should look at someone even younger than the 29-year-old middle-order batsman.
“When you become captain of the national side you need to think of the bigger picture and Younis has not always been able to do that,” he insisted.
"Can he get the team to gel, act as a motivating force and lead from the front? There are plenty of unanswered questions about him.
"I think it would be better to groom someone like Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi or Salman Butt, although they need to be sure of their place in the team.
“If you go with someone like Younis you will still be appointing from tournament to tournament.”
Despite the latest crisis, former opener Sohail insists the ingredients are there for the country to be a force in world cricket. "Having worked for the PCB and been a chief selector I’ve gone to almost every part of Pakistan, and there’s so much talent it’s unbelievable. “If the authorities and decision makers get organized and start making professional decisions, distributing power among the people who work for the PCB and not confining it one person, with decisions made by consensus after constructive arguments, I think there will be a quick turnaround in fortunes.”

Re: CHANGE MUST TAKE PLACE / WHAT SHOULD BE THE NEW STRUCTURE OF PCB?

I think they should seek advice from the Ulema inshAllah. All of them should take a break go in the path of Allah. Many of the players have already gone in the path of Allah and have changed their lives. InshAllah we will be on top again.
