Re: Champions Trophy - India V Pak - Sep. 26, 09
India's best bet is batting first and putting up at least 220-230 runs and then hope that the often self-destructive Pak batting line up crumbles under pressure of chasing a target (like they almost did against the Windies).
That said, this is one time I will say that the Pak team is MUCH STRONGER than India in both bowling and batting department. Pak has a formidable bowling attack and the batting line up is packed with tulleybaazs & allrounders and bat deep.
India's batting (traditionally strong) appears very weak minus Sehwag & Yuvraj...get a couple of wickets and you are already into the likes of Dhoni and Yousuf etc...Yousuf Pathan in particular will be a sitting duck against Ajmal. Don't have much faith in Raina's abilities against the short-ball either.
lagta hay aap post 1990’s era may paida hoiey thay ![]()
Are you really that young? ![]()
Even in those days, Pakistan were not distinctively superior to India in batting.
Pakistan’s successes came mainly because of the bowling - the 2 W’s and Saqlain/Mustaq/Akhtar etc.
As I said in my last post, in this game - Pak seem to be the better side in both batting and bowling (I am talking in an ODI context of course).

India (probable) 1 Gautam Gambhir, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Rahul Dravid, 4 Suresh Raina, 5 MS Dhoni (capt/wk), 6 Virat Kohli/Dinesh Karthik, 7 Yusuf Pathan, 8 Harbhajan Singh, 9, 10 and 11 three out of Ishant Sharma, RP Singh, Ashish Nehra and Amit Mishra.
Pakistan (probable) 1 Imran Nazir, 2 Kamran Akmal (wk), 3 Younis Khan (capt.), 4 Shoaib Malik, 5 Mohammad Yousuf, 6 Umar Akmal, 7 Shahid Afridi, 8 Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, 9 Mohammad Aamer, 10 Umar Gul, 11 Saeed Ajmal

hmmmm not sure if I agree with you. I think if you compare the two batting sides of Pakistan (current one and the one from 1990's), the one we had back in 1990's was no way inferior if not superior than the current one. Opening pair of Sohail and Saeed Anwar are far superior than any other opening pairs we saw in the last 5-6 years. The middle order was ok but then there is nothing very special about the middle order we have right now except for Umar Akmal but he still is too young and too inexperienced.
Re: Champions Trophy - India V Pak - Sep. 26, 09
India has always had a better batting line up on paper. However, they have lacked the fighting spirit barring the Kapil Dev led team in the 80s. Pak had some great batsmen & some mediocre ones, but all of them had the fighting spirit that Indian batsmen lacked. The Indian team became a lot more aggressive under Ganguly's leadership and Dhoni has just kept the momentum going. If at all the gap between the two batting sides has widened today compared to 80s & 90s.
Pak has always been the better bowling side. However, while the gap between quality of bowlers (pace mainly) was huge in the Imran, Wasim, Waqar & Shoaib era it is not as big anymore. However, Pak still has an edge when it comes to bowling.
So IMO, India is a better team overall on paper. The big question is will they deliver on the field ?
I guess we will know tomorrow :)
Is there going to be a link for this match? please :halo:

If they were not superior to Indian batting then how did their batsman managed to score enough runs for their bowling to defend in AWAY test series that won Pak series in Eng, NZ and drew series in SA in 90's?
