most probably this thread will disappear somewhere in a few days because of lack of interest, but I think football being the most ‘important’ sport in the world, there should at least be one thread about the Champions League which started yesterday…
Arsenal v Dortmund 2-0
Auxerre v PSV 0-0
Basel v Spartak 2-0
Valencia v Liverpool 2-0
RC Genk v AEK 0-0
Roma v Madrid 0-3
Ajax v Lyon 2-1
Rosenborg v Internazionale 2-2
tonight's matches:
Lokomotiv v Galatasaray
Barcelona v Club Brugge
Feyenoord v Juventus
Dynamo v Newcastle
Man. United v M. Haifa
Olympiakos v Leverkusen
Bayern v Deportivo
Milan v Lens
Real really played superbly, beating Roma in Rome! on top of that Ronaldo wasn't playing and Zidane wasn't in his best form either.(however Figo was ;)) no need to say, but Real are the clear-cut favourites to take this one too.
although Roma set a bad example for the Italian team yesterday, I do expect the two Milan teams (AC and Inter) to make their mark this year
^yes, but what surprises me is that Real having more star players than any other team does click! I guess it's the coach: Del Bosque, although Ferguson has proven himself to be a world class coach too
Lokomotiv v Galatasaray 1-1
Barcelona v Club Brugge 3-0
Feyenoord v Juventus 1-1 or 2-1
Dynamo v Newcastle 1-0
Man. United v M. Haifa 2-0
Olympiakos v Leverkusen 1-1
Bayern v Deportivo 2-1
Milan v Lens 2-0
Darn Man U won..
Suprisingly enough they are one of the most expensive clubs in the world, and they aren't doing that well in the Barcleycard Table. :)
18 September 2002
Dynamo v Newcastle 2-0
Feyenoord v Juventus 1-1
Man. United v M. Haifa 5-2
Olympiakos v Leverkusen 6-2
Bayern v Deportivo 2-3
Milan v Lens 2-1
Barcelona v Club Brugge 3-2
Lokomotiv v Galatasaray 0-2
are the results..surprisingly Bayern Munich lost to Deportivo helped by a hat trick of goals by Makaay..
and Man U won..oops..got a scare after debutants opened the scoring..then the floodgates opened..
10' Giggs
35' Solskjær
46' Veron
54' van Nistelrooij
89' (pen) Forlán
Feyenoord Juventus was a great match to watch! the Italians were great thgoughout the match, but Feyenoord having the best free-kick specialist in the world (33% go in), equalized late on.
Biggest upset I’d say was Deportivo winning from Bayern in Munich, with Dutchman Makaay scoring thrice :k:
AC Milan did good things winning 2-1 with a double from Pippo Inzaghi.
Man U although winning 5-2 weren’t impressive at all. 2 goals are too many to get against a team like Maccabi especially at home.
Barcelona: should have finished their chances better, could easily have been 5/6. their defence and keeper aren’t good enough!
Champions League enters it second stage with some interesting matches in store today...
