Re: Chak De! India

In the movie they showed India won the world cup whereas India never finished in top 6 in any of the women’s world up so far.

Re: Chak De! India

1982 was the most humuliating defeat of Indian Hockey - right in front of a dejected Indra Gandhi who was personally there to watch the match.

Re: Chak De! India

 thnx uncle, but any source?

p.s. no i m not sharukh fan :cb:

Re: Chak De! India

actually like the thread starter said in real life the story was about the indian women’s hockey team winning gold at the COMMON WEALTH GAMES of 2002 but I guess the director didn’t want to stick completely to the true events and showed it to be the world cup.BBC SPORT | Commonwealth Games 2002 | Hockey | India deny England gold

they did the same thing with the movie “Guru”. Why couldn’t they stick completely to the real story of ambani and use his name in the movie instead of using fictional names with real events.

FIH website. Click here

And check the Women’s World Cup results.

1972 Barclona: India was not among competitors.
1974 Paris: India finished 4th (sorry I overlooked this one)
1976 Berlin: India was not among competitors
1978 Madrid: India won 7th spot
1981 Buenos Aires: India not among competitors
1983 Kuala Lumpur: India 11th spot
1986 Amstelveen: India not among competitors
1990 Sydney: India not among competitors
1994 Dublin: India not among competitors
1998 Utrecht: India got the wooden spoon among 12 teams
2002 Perth: Poor India even could not find place in 16 competitors
2006 Madrid: India finished 11.

That day in 2002 was probably the worst day in Manschester for English ladies that they lost to India! The same year 2002 India failed to qualfy for Perth World Cup. It also poorly finished 7th among 14 teams in France’s World Cup qualifying tournament.

Re: Chak De! India

I again regret that I overlooked India's highest position (4th in 1974) in the history of women's world cup.

But one can clearly see that India failed to qualify for most of the world cup tournaments in women's hockey.

Re: Chak De! India

But people who do not know much about hockey and its history are in wrong impression. I can say surely whoever participated in this forum did not know the facts I’ve pointed out.

Re: Chak De! India

Nevertheless! I appreciate the movie! It has bolstered my favourite sports in India. And the Indian mens (some say inspired by the movie) won the Asia Cup in Chennai in September. Alas Pakistan finished its worst ever tournament at number 6.

Re: Chak De! India

I agree..I dont know what was the need of changing the facts...
What was the need of

  1. talking about worldcup, instead they could have said commonwealth game.
  2. show muslim centre forward character who fails to convert penalty and then show the 'Gaddar' comment. They unnecessarily tried to bring it RSS kinda angle. They could very well have shown Negi as goalkeeper who conceded 7 goals in Asia. What was the harm there? I think this was very stupid of diretors.. Overall I liked the movie.

Re: Chak De! India

answers:
1 creative liberty
2 same. it wasnt shown to say that Muslims are 'Gaddar' in anyway. if the main character was Hindu/Sikh/Jain/Buddhist/Christian/Parsi then you wouldnt had minded that much.

Re: Chak De! India

isn’t the director,Shimit Amin, a muslim himself or is that a Parsi name? Why would he show any bias towards Muslims:smack:. Plus the main Muslim character was shown to be the the savior of a dejected girls team and was shown to push the team spirit aspect. I love how the director showed women in a positive light instead of showing them as suffering like they always show in Hindi movies…thank you shimit amin!!!

Re: Chak De! India

quite a good movie......i liked watching it...acting was good by all girls....and SHK rocked....

Re: Chak De! India

Indian women hockey team failed to qualify for the Beijing games. They finished poor 3 at the qualifier in Russia and even lost to the minnows - the Netherland Antilles.

Re: Chak De! India

Wats the use of digging up a old thread

Re: Chak De! India

The closest they’ll get to winning a world title is in this movie only! Indian Hockey Team isn’t strong enough any more to challenge the likes of Australia, Germany, Holland, South Korea.

Re: Chak De! India

i watched a bit of it...n i loved it.....film is sooo good..........srk acted well n specially those girls..........just wowowowowowowow
