Chaand Raat

Re: Chaand Raat

well for my part its not actually celebrating the end of Ramadan. its about celebrating the coming of Eid. Even in Medina women sing songs outside the mosque of the prophet saw.
During the time of the prophet saw women were singing at Eid day and the prophet saw came in and they stopped singing and the prophet saw actually encouraged them to keep singing as it was Eid.

Eid meaning happiness. We celebrate all other occasions of happiness: birthdays, new jobs, weddings, births etc....

Eid is a religious festival and within the limits of sensibility one is allowed to celebrate Eid. Mind it, Eid starts from the last iftar as the Islamic day is from maghrib to next maghrib (lunar). So IMO chaand raat is celebration of the coming of Eid.

Islam is about balance and within limits one is allowed to have fun and celebrate special occasions.

Putting on henna, making sweets and spending quality time with family and friends is absolutely not un Islamic.

If someone exaggerates or start using haram stuff in the name of islam, well then its a whole different story!

Re: Chaand Raat

^ can u plz clarify, was it the WOMEN or the CHILDREN (little girls) singing songs?

Re: Chaand Raat

As far as I know it was women singing songs and Aisha RA was sitting with them. I'll see if I can find the hadith I have mentioned here.

Re: Chaand Raat

sorry I mixed up with another one. Here is the hadith:

Once the Noble Prophet was sleeping with his face covered in the apartment of Aisha. It was the day of Eid (Muslims' holiday) and young girls were singing. Abu Bakr entered the house and asked the girls to stop. The Prophet said, "Let them sing, it is the day of Eid for them." ( Bukhari )

Re: Chaand Raat

C420. Exactly, girls and not women. Celebration of Eid arrival is not under discussion here but rather the significance of the events that have been included into the chand raat festival. I don't think there is anything wrong with people getting together to celebrate arrival of Eid but so long as we do not treat Ramadan as a burden but rather a blessing. When Prophet allowed those little girls to sing, I don't think he had the concept of chand raat festival in mind.
