So how do you celebrate chaand raat in your family and friends circle?
Being the last night of Ramadan I try to pray the most, and then make stuff ready for eid, like ironing clothes etc.
When I lived home..before I got married …I used to put on mehndi with my sisters and make jalebis and gulaab jamuns…it never turned out as it should..jaleibi is difficult to make man!but it was hilarious!!!we had so much fun!!!
I dont know many ppl here so I dont know how future chaand raats might turn out to be here in my new hometown…
But this year we are going to visit my parents for eid so chaand raat will be with my sisters and jalebi making:D
Sister, u have done well with praying on the night.... it is the "night of prizes" after all and we should invoke to Allah SWT as much as possible to less us with His mercy and guidance for the rest of the year... sadly, our cultural acivities are quite opposite to what our deen encourages and hence the clash.... besides that, I usually help my Mum with food and ironing :)
well ours is different......we do all the clothes and ironoing way before.....as my aunti has a huuugegeee salon for asian women......our salon is PACKED with ladies.......we put music on and all the clients are getting their nails, hair and mehendi done from us....we put everything up for half price and we get a queeeuuu of ladis outside our salon.....its in London, Tooting called 'Sajna'......chaand raat is hillrious and we finish round 5 in the morning.....trust me we get bags under eyes.....
but in Manchester this time round im planning to go to Wimslow Road on chaand raat with my hubby for the first time..i heaard u get hooliguns there at nyt and its not a pretty sight but i'll be only gone for 2 hours or so....i myt get mehendi put on or buy some nice clothes thats it...oh n yes we might have a nice meal...:)
When we were younger at home, we too used to put mehndi on (thanks to nanima!) and mum used to be busy with food. My nanima always used to start the cooking for next day and used to put the sheirkuma on...it tasted gorgeous the next day!!
These days, it's a case of ringing round/texting people (so as nobody gets offended that you didn't ring them!!)
Then stress about cleaning the house (even though nobdy comes round to ours!)
Iron clothes......get started on the cooking..........
Insha allah this year, I will try to make the most of this special night by praying lots and lots.........everything else will have to be done beforehand...................
chaan raat was lots of fun wen we used to talk to our cousins lolz
al the girls wud get together after roza and put on mehndi and luagh and joke.
bt from the past few years its become like a ritual for me and my sister and other frends to get together around my best frends house and put on mehndi come bk home iron clothes
this year my mommy wont b here to cook us all lovely food :(
We usually have a mela at our local masjid, we all plan to go, we pray some, eat some, pit mehndi on, buy choorian and have loads of fun!!
My Hubby just prays and eats some, but usually it's more fun for the kids and ladies!!
Aww Sara. There's a chand raat even happening in the City on Oct 12th, that should be fun. I never really did anything special for Chand Raat, only every other year or so, friend's would get together and get mehndi done and get our clothes ready etc. Maybe cuz im from a family of mainly guys...only brothers and mainly ALL guy cousins, i guess I never really got into the girly aspect of getting choorian and stuff. I did always pray though and call everyone about Eid preps with my mom. I did always go shopping for all family members and give them their Eidi early in case they wanna use it on Eid :) Same with parents, they'd give us our eidi's early etc. And night before Eid Id help my mom with cooking preparations and getting clothes ready.
^ I think I got an invite for it..but its like $70..and i have a flight that day, so oh well :)
Last year i prepped for Eid by doing my assignments that were due....2005 was the best... dont recall 04 03 02 01 00 etc tec
mine is way too boring i dont have any sister or cozins living near frnds r u usually bz with their families and work I beleive sum of u who are not living in Pakistan have a better chand raat then us times have changed we have the dullest chand raat and sumtimes boring eid :'(
ohh chaand raat reminds me all of Eids i spend in Pakistan.. when i was kid, used to go to nana home at night and khalas put mehndi and there were so many cousins and family there ,like itna shoor key tuba... but after khalas got married and everyone started their own life, it got smaller and smaller but still i ahd so much fun on EID... with cusions and friends...
In USA , i never had good time ON Eid. last year we(my bro+ cusion+2 friends) planned to go chaad raat mela in long island city,,, but my bro got call from his friend that we dont need to come, there is big fight and guys are acting nasty. so we cancelled our plan and went to jackson heights, there was so much ronaq and we had our dinner at 2.00AM at night.hahahah
this year i am plaaning to go some chaand raat mela. i heard that there are so many in NJ,, some in EDison and some differnet places.
do u guys know any chaand raat mela in NY/NJ? and which one is the good one
for chaand raat…when we find out its eid the next day we usually go out into the garden and do dua.
then we come back in and pray…after that we phone up all the closest relations possible in the area and we all do each others mehndi…and just eat like mad :halo:
its usually soo much fun…we blast it up and as werr all girls we make loads of noise…but what the heck…let the neighbours give me evils the next day
this year i think i’ll go for something quiet and jst stay home and pray…i dnt even want mehndi

ABSOLUTELY!!!! This is not directed at you C420 but what is the significance of chand raat celebration? That ramadan is finally over and we can eat and drink at any time?
usually merey saarey dost aur cousins jama hotay and we play indoor cricket in the basement, carom board or pattay (cards) through out the night until we are dead tired
Ok so like this year i'm determined to do the whole chand raat thing..except it has to be oct 11th (unlikely) and in NYC (not long island or NJ).. anyone? :(
