I am reading and searching about it and came across this article…

while some others article say that"celebrating" is bidath…
so what to believe?

Re: Celebrating Birthdays!
I used to stay confuse about this:confused:, once saw in Dr. Zakir Naik program he said its not kind of gunnah nor sawab thing, cause in those times (prophet times) no one used to celebrate these days so there was nothing much about it. As a muslim i dont think we should cause its not part of our religious teachings. We are asked to Follow the prophet and he never did these things, so i dont celebrate or even congratulate others on their birthdays, i do bring cake in my house whenever i feel like doing party
and almost all of us get a knife and cut the cake all togather, i feel pitty on cake at times:cb:, one little cake and 7 knives and its always unpredictable. no one gets hurt for not wishing them on special days cause at times we have and at times we dont have much to spend so this kind of keeps everyone equal and happy:lifey:.
Re: Celebrating Birthdays!
Islam doesn't prohibit it.
Re: Celebrating Birthdays!
Peace akmoti,
I think its more related to cultrual rather than to Islam. For example, Quaid-e-Azam day is marked and official holiday is also observed on this day/date. Its has nothing to do with religion Islam. If we read the history than we’ll know that its common in every culture and was celebrated due to various reasons. Read more about birthday celebration at: Birthday - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
So simple is that we will not found any reference where birthday was celebrated by Prophet Muhammad :saw2: or by any of His :saw2: companions. Moreover, it is written in that link provided in your post that “Whosoever imitates a nation is amongst them”. So why we do something which was never done by our Prophet Muhammad :saw2: or by any of His :saw2: companions.
Peace hareem,
Islam also doesn’t promote it.
Re: Celebrating Birthdays!
Islam doesn't promote watching Baallywood movies either.
Re: Celebrating Birthdays!
Peace hareem,
Agreed :)

Re: Celebrating Birthdays!
Kcjughtai, do you have a beard like sahaba?
Re: Celebrating Birthdays!
:)
Re: Celebrating Birthdays!
So, in order to qualify for agreeing to a comment about the lifestyle of the Prophet Sallallaahu Aleyhi Wassallam, one needs to have a beard like Suhabas ?
p.s. how about in case of females, dress up like suhabias ?

Truth is Prophet didn't say anything about birthdays specifically....but he did regarding the beard... still so many muslims (including some posters here perhaps) don't grow one.
I know why some people don't like birthdays (ahmadis, radical deobandis and wahabis) because they are against everything that brelvis do....that is the real reason for the leaders of these sects giving out fatwas against birthdays.
Re: Celebrating Birthdays!
Peace Hareem,
I completely agree with your first clause. For second clause, U might be right in cases of sect againsts another sects but not in case of all.

Well said, totally agree. The Prophet (SAW) didn't say anything about birthdays specifically..but he did regarding beard and also about dressing modestly (like Suhabias did)...
So people should emphasize more on keeping beard and dressing modestly, rather than wasting time in celebrating birthdays. (Something the Prophet didn't consider important enough to say anything about/ or practice)
Re: Celebrating Birthdays!
So people should emphasize more on keeping beards and dressing modestly than celebrating birthdays.
Who should emphasize who?
Point was people are quick to declare something haram because they don't agree with it for some personal reason.
Re: Celebrating Birthdays!

and there is no hadees promoting posting in an online forum.
Stop posting on GS people, you are doing an UnIslamic thing.

Let us not judge & leave the 'reason of disagreeing' to ALLAH, who knows what is going in their heart while they disagree, unless clearly stated by themselves, that they are disagreeing for such and such reasons.
Re: Celebrating Birthdays!
No it is now allowed otherwise HAZRAT MUHAMMAD SAW would have celebrated his own birthday but no one did and it is not bidah because no one celebrates his own birthday thinking it as part of Islam but still should avoid and as a matter of fact it is reminder for us that we are now more close to our death

As far as ahmadis are concerned, it is highly recommended that we keep beard but it is not required or essential.
I don't know about others but ahmadi beliefs are not set keeping brelvis in mind. you are being naive thinking on these lines.
Re: Celebrating Birthdays!
Peace All,
Lets stay on the topic about 'celebrating Birthdays' and no more discussion other than that. :)
