Cats and Dogs

Are cats considered na-paak like dogs are?

Re: Cats and Dogs

No one?

Re: Cats and Dogs

That's what my mom tells me, she also says if you touch a cat or dog, you can't read namaz wearing the same clothes

Re: Cats and Dogs

I know that dogs are dirty and na-paak.. but i dunno abt cats..

Re: Cats and Dogs

I don't think cats are considered napaak.

Re: Cats and Dogs

DOGS yes
They are considered najiss - meaning that whatever comes into contact becomes napaak.

CATS no
They are not considered napaak. The conditions of nijasat dont apply here.

I myself have a pet cat (kitten in fact)

Re: Cats and Dogs

ok so whats the difference btwn najiss and napaak ? :bummer:

Re: Cats and Dogs

CATS ARE NOT NAPAK. THIS IS CONFIRMED.

hein? :-|

Re: Cats and Dogs

the same = one is the shariah term other is just urdu. In arabic its is actually nijs .
And yes CATS = good = allowed domestic pet in Islam.
DOGS = bad = allowed as gaurds outside.

Ona side note, a reason why your mom doesn’t want to have the cats or touching the cats is that even they will make messes regardless of them being allowed.
They will make the surrounding nijs or the home they live in nijs if they are cooped up inside and don’t go outside to poop and piss. Hence the cat-litter box. I have seen some non-muslims houses stinking as they keep their cats inside and don’t take care of the litter-box ..

never noticed…but the brown kitty is too cute…

Re: Cats and Dogs

“It is not impure, it is of those [creatures] that mingle with you.” [Reported by Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Nasa’i, and Ibn Maja]

and check this..

[QUOTE]
If a cat drinks from a container, however, or licks ones hand before praying, then it would be mildly disliked (makruh tanzihan) to drink from that same container, or to pray without washing off the traces of saliva from ones hand. This is if one suspects it to have eaten filth or is uncertain of its state–whether impure (from eating filth) or pure. If a cat eats a mouse and drinks water immediately after, then the water becomes impure. However, by licking its mouth for a short while, the mouth is purified and it is no longer impure. Re: Cats and Dogs

*

says who? how come u're allowed to eat prey fetched by hunting dogs then?

Re: Cats and Dogs

You don’t swallow the prey whole, do you ? I used to think cleaning/cutting was normal procedure afterwards.

Re: Cats and Dogs

If you become najis you just make yoursef Tahr by taking a ghusl or whatever may be the prescribed way to purify yourself from the najasat. I don't think anyone eats the game hunted by a dog without washing it.
