Underestimating women? I dont think so really. Rather, its the inability to accept another point of view while being so emotionally (and physically) involved in a situation....ie., if a wife and MIL are living together and have differing points of view, its very difficult to separate yourself from the situation without a neutral 3rd party who can intervene and keep things on a more even keel.
