This story may be very related to OG’s comments. Seems a US spyplane has crashed in some as yet unnamed country in Southwest Asia. The official story is that the plane was returning from a reconnaissance mission over Afghanistan. Wouldn’t surprise me a bit to learn that the spyplane was conducting a reconnaissance mission over Pakistan in search of OBL and crashed there.
Of course, Mushy would not want to reveal that he has given the US flyover rights and that US spy planes are helping Pakistani troops and maybe some Afghans and Americans in the frontier regions.
Here’s the story:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The pilot of a U.S. Air Force U-2 spyplane was killed on Wednesday when the plane crashed in Southwest Asia after a reconnaissance mission over Afghanistan, the U.S. military said.
“The aircraft had completed its mission and was returning to base when the crash occurred,” Air Force Capt. David Small, a spokesman for the U.S. Central Command Air Forces, or CENTAF, said by telephone from Southwest Asia.
Small refused to reveal where the plane had crashed but said the incident was under investigation. The aircraft went down at 7:30 p.m. EDT (2330GMT) Tuesday, which was Wednesday in the Asia region.
“U-2s have been flying daily over Iraq and Afghanistan” in support of U.S. and allied forces fighting in the two countries, Small said.
The single-seat, high-altitude reconnaissance and surveillance plane, a veteran of the Cold War with the former Soviet Union, is unarmed but flies at altitudes that make it impervious to many ground-fired weapons.
CENTAF is the air arm of the U.S. Central Command, which is responsible for U.S. military operations in the Gulf, Middle East and parts of Asia.

Re: Casus Belli? (casus belli: A cause justifying war; a ground of war.)
I said tangible, not illogical or mythical. We already “controlled” the middle east, and the “zionists” have only seen more violence since 9-11, and have actually lost territory.
On the other hand, OBL and other radical fundamentalist greatest desire was to draw the US into a direct conflict w/Islam, and polarize support for their viewpoint. They abhored our military presence on Saudi soil as well as the broader influence of western ideals within muslim culture. Bush and company didn’t want to back down from the fight, and OBL I’m sure is as pleased as punch because (in your words) he now has a fresh supply of warm bodies to which bombs can be strapped.
