What are the different castes in Pakistan and what do they signify? I only know about a few but have no idea what they represent. Let’s list the ones that are most prevalent and what customs are associated with each.
Note: This isn’t a thread about whether the caste system should exist or not. I’d just like to learn how our people are divided into categories.
For example, I’ve heard Rajpoot is considered an elite caste, probably because most of them have their own businesses. Is that true?
Memons. From the Gujrat side, speak memoni, mostly business owners that are rich and known to be kanjoos (stingy). Don’t hate me for this but that’s a well known assumption abt them!
Frankly, no matter what caste they are out there , each one believes they are the best and try to bad mouth the others !! That is the reason why the entire society is getting twisted at the hands of the caste mafia !
Syeds are considered the Elite as the are from the Prophet (PBUH) lineage.
Jatt and Gujjars both use the suffix Chaudhary - yes Chaudhary is not a zaat in itself - both hate each other, but if they’ve to marry someone outside their caste, they tend to be alright with each other.
Raja and Rana’s think they are royal blood. A tale I once heard was that Raja’s (or maybe it was Rana?) were suppose to be the illegit children of the mughal emperor.
Well Rajput literally translate into Son of King. I’m not sure about Mughal link but they are supposed to be descendants of Hindu Royal warriors. Do not qoute me on that.
In Nothern Punjab (Pakistan), they are largely landowners or own businesses.
Also, what is the difference between pathans and kashmiris?
Could someone shed more light on arian and jatt?
Just wondering does zaat have to do with skin colour / mother tongue / geographic region too? For example, pathan and kashmiri are generally light skinned. Gujju are usually not (?). Also, most memons I have come across belong to Karachi thus Urdu speaking. Is that somewhat accurate or am I misinterpreting the system?
the name for caste system in hindi is “varna”. varna means color. it has every frikkin thing to do with color in the subcontinent. same crap from 5000 years, just new names.
