cashing checks

Is there any set fee that check cashing places can charge? The place by my school charges 1.4 percent, which is no biggie for me, coz it’s only a dollar off my check (yes its pathetically low :D).. but is there a standard?

Re: cashing checks

No, some may charge much higher too.

Re: cashing checks

sara

Some banks have free checking for new customers.

Re: cashing checks

Sara, as jassoos said, each plays has its own "fee", probably will depend on type of neighborhood as well.

Re: cashing checks

Pindah, they take a dollar and some change off my check; in my neighborhood i bet it wud be less so i’m not too concerned about fees or anything. But when I get a real job that pays more than six dollars an hour and i get to work MORe than the maximum 9 hrs i work now (on a full week, nto counting all these damn jewish holidays :frowning: ) then ill consider a checking account. Til then,…

Re: cashing checks

Sara: Your mother can deposit that check into her account & get immediate credit and then just withdraw that amount right out. Just endorse ~Pay to the order of Your mom's name followed by your and your mothers signature on the back of the check. Some banks might even cash it right then and there, but your name is not on your mothers account so there might be an issue cashing it. Good Luck!
