ok i mean what the heck. is it better to go flag-burning, rioting and hanging-in-effigy OR to educate and influence in ways that can truly make a difference??? This shouldnt be all that hard to understand.....and its what I'm trying to get across to you people although it doesnt seem that there is much agreement here.

Mama, nobody here is saying that violence is the way to go. In fact, if you read the thread going on in the Religion forum and even World Affairs, you will see plenty of people condemning the violence. My above post does not mean that I am all for the rioting and burning of embassies, although I am thoroughly disgusted with the cartoons and the Danish newspaper, and subsequent European countries, for even publishing this garbage in the first place.

Violence is not the answer. However, we do have a right to get upset at what has happened and express our hurt and anger, by peaceful means.

It was in bad taste and showed an absolute lack of respect and decency. For those who say leave if you don't like it, how is moving back to where you came from any answer? This is growing racism in Europe which is only getting worse after 9/11. If it's not stopped now, it's just gonna get worse and worse.

Jews were only brought up as an example. You will never see a cartoon mocking the Jewish holocaust cause that would be disrespectful and insulting. Yet it's totally "o.k." to mock the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Muslims as demons.

The world, and a bunch of people even here on GS, are telling those people who are upset to, "get over it". We were told to get over it when the Americans decided to go to war in Afghanistan/Iraq, we were told to get over it when the Abu Gharib pictures were published and we learned what the some of the noble American forces were up to, and we're being told to get over it now. I'm not just limiting it to GS, but reactions from people all over the world that you can read on the BBC website and see on various news channels. That is the message here, "get over it and deal with it". That's like telling Americans and Spaniards to get over the terrorist attacks that happened on their soil ... not very likely that will ever happen.

Basically, the majority of people want us to accept this racist attitude instead of challenging it.

The way to go is to get an apolagy from Denamrks government and a law put in place to stop this happening again. If not then economic santions against them.

Mehnaz, yes you are very right. Its sad that the Holocaust is just about the ONLY thing that is completely exempt from the political cartoonists - everyone and everything else is fair game. But this is what I've been trying to get at here, that its the JEWish people who have educated themselves into the highest ranks of media and politics in the western world. Muslims just need to do the same, yeah?

And mr SB, you are right too. If the danes can find any decency in their souls, they will apologize for their profane insult of the Prophet (pbuh). I dont see it coming but it should. And it would go a long way in cooling things off. But sadly I dont think they'll do it. (shame on them)

... at the killings in Afghanistan, in Somalia and in Lebanon and the hundreds that have been injured since the blasphemous cartoon was published. Those killed might be innocent, might be bystanders, vigilantes, thrill seekers, mischievous teens or stone throwing adults or might have wished to die defending the honor of the prophet but they were also human beings and I value the life of a fellow human being more than my hurt feelings. Because the prophet (saw) I love & believe in would not let anyone die, so he may get an apology.

May Allah forgive the sins of those who died & grant them peace that they never experienced in this lifetime.

I hate Killing period. I just feel no one has any right to take a life away from another human being.

I find it amazing how can these people kill so many innocent people and call it a Jihad on top it pray namaz. How can you be in front of Allah knowing you have done such a horrible thing. I mean how come you dont have a fear that He will ask you questions regarding your deeds and you cannot give excuses.

I feel so sad knowing every single media is bashing Islam. They all claim its a war against terriorism well if it is then blame the country where those people came from not what they believe in.

Sometimes i feel i will pray price for their deeds - i think i am. I hate it when people look at me and think oh she is terriorist. That black bag she has looks so puffy might be something in it. I hate that feeling people think Muslims are some low class people who got nothing better to do other then blowing people away.

Proper response to cartoon

1. Ignore it, they're just trying to get a reaction anyway

2. Lodge complaint with Newspaper

3. Write editorial to newspaper explaining what they had done and why it is so offensive to Muslims.

4. Contact Newspaper advertisers lodge complaint with them.

5. Boycott those who advertise in the Newspaper.

Advisable plan to use when future incidents occur as well. One should not expect an apology from the government which does not run or control what is in the newspaper

I seriously think CAIR, ICNA or Islamic relief should come forward. Demand apology and take this issue to a point where they SUE the newspaper. Make money off of them and then divide it among all the poor muslim countries.

That letter should be published in every single newspaper of the world + posted everywhere on the web. Even if Cair, icna or islamic relief want take the issue up to UN.

Lets not be naive about this now. Whoever heard of a Euroean newspaper being sued in a US court, and pay anything remotely substantial to be distributed among all the poor muslim countries? Lets see... Yep. No one.

In any case, I think burning and destroying Danish consulates and embassies all over the world is a refreshing expression of freedom of expression and free speech. You can't make any mistake about the intent of these people. There is no confusion. Its all very simple and clear. You screw with us, and we screw you. Not literally, ofcourse, but you get the idea.

Nope, not going to work. If you think that violence is going to stop a paper from printing something you're wrong, in fact you are likely to see just the opposite. Peopel aren't going to give into mindless thugs, no matter how lame the message might be.
