Career Woman or Homemaker ?

hahaha .. did I make that typo ..good eye you have Sheyn ..

Re: Career Woman or Homemaker ?

Mabrook i agree… running a household is hard work.. and totally unrecognised.

I got married after uni… then went straight into work for the RAF for 6 years… I was in the UK and my hubby was i France… so yes… 6 years apart = no housewife :CareBear:

My husband totally respected my decision (though my MIL not so much!) and liked the fact that i wanted to stand on my own two feet and contribute substancially (in financial terms) to our future. He did have moments here he would act ‘alpha-male’… where he would say ‘‘why can’t you just enjoy what i provide.. i earn enough for both of us… enjoy having a free life..etc’’ but for me, being a housewife was not a free life, and i wanted to use my intellect and education… otherwise what would be the point of uni…i would’ve just got married at 16 no? :smack:

Sheyn i totally agree with your comment about being at home for the kids. As soon as children came on the scene, i knew i wanted to be there for everything… i could never trust a nanny!! My hubby and MIL wanted me to get a nanny (as this is how the hubby was raised)… but then what would be the point of me staying at home also ?? :smack: Anyway, that was a big no.

So now i’m classified as a housewife… or kept woman… or whatever the terminology is.
I (try to) cook, clean etc… and i don’t mind it… but throughtout all this, i’ve been studying, keeping my brain stimulated…i just don’t think being a housewife is enough for me, so after my children are a little older, i think i’ll ease back into some work (though not back to the RAF…that would be impossible :D)

What’s on your mind TLK :faizy:

Then you would just complain that your wifey is not ‘maintaining’ herself for you… you can’t win… :snooty:

Re: Career Woman or Homemaker ?

It should truly be a mutual decision, and one that is best made prior to marriage. If a gal wants a career type of life then arrangements need to be made for home and childcare. Does the potential hubby agree to this or is it going to be a point of contention? If the wife wants to be home with the kiddies, is it going to be financially feasable or is it going to put undue burden on hubby to earnearnearn? What kind of arrangements would there be if (god forbid) something should happen to hubby who is the sole wage-earner?

Hubby and I discussed these things in depth prior to our marriage. He wanted a stay-home mom and I surely wanted the same thing knowing that I could never be one of those "super-mom" types who have successful career and also perfectly raised kids lol. Bless those who can for sure, but also bless those who realize their limitations and abilities!!

I gave up a really good career to have my kids. It gives my hubby comfort to know that I would be able to earn a good living for myself and the boys if it came down to that. Not as good as he can for sure, but I'd do just fine if I needed to and would not have to rely on finding a new hubby or charity.

Its a very personal choice that varies greatly. The most important thing is to approach life in the way that suits you and your family and to marry a spouse that has the same desires that you do.

Good comeback.. varna you’d totally be in the dog house :bailan:
