With da way things are going now...I'd say 5000-7000 dirhams for a decent bachelor life, unless if ur willing to kill ur "nabs" & sacrifice ur worldly desires & save some money...!
Scenario 1
Bachelor - 5000-7000 dirhams.
A nice studio apartment in Dubai - 18000 to 25000 per annum
Utility bills - Electricity, Gas, water, municipal taxes, telephone - Average 1000 dirhams per month
Misc Xpenses - Petrol, car maintenance - 600-800 dirhams
Food - Not more than 1000 dirhams if u know how to cook at home.
^ This is a decent bachelor life for me.
There are people living below that line & they sacrifice a lot of things, just to make it thru da day...!
3000 will only get u thru for da month, & u wont have anything left at da end of da month, if u want a decent life. 5000-7000 makes u save & live...if u intend to keep a family, I'd say double this amount & ur happy in Dubai. But truth is that there are people who have 12000-17000 dhs salary, live lavishly & still dont have money to pay da barber...it depends on how u live ur lifestyle, but I'd say, 5000-7000 is da mean.

Very well said Umer, just a couple of things I will add for jal_pari are as follows: UAE and other gulf universities are rather flexible if you have a Masters from a US/Canadian/UK University AND you are a citizen of any of those countries. In those cases, they don't insist on Phd, but rather offer you slightly lower pay (close to 4000 USD/month or 15,000 AED) with all other benefits. You can also check out higheredjobs.com where many of these universities post their jobs. The best way to apply is indeed thru their websites, as malik also mentioned before.
thanks for the input everyone. Umer these Web sites are great help :k: thanks again.
Does anyone knows if there is an age limit for these academic positions? specially for seniors who have 20+ years experience.
^^ Jal_pari, I wouldn't think there would be such a thing stated formally... but one should be aware that being over 50 does reduce the chances somewhat esp. if the positions are competitive.
Who is this for anyways? you can PM me if you want.
Hawww haii! A person doesn't have to be 50 to have 20 yrs of experience. That would mean that i have 10+ yrs of experience in all my careers.. Don't trying doing any math on that one, :hehe"

Hey people, be thankful to what you have. Rizq is where God would give you from. Dont be charmed by what you see and what you hear. Dont be greedy. Be thankful for what you have. I know people who want to get the hell out of the place cz of racism. If you're an indian looking British/American/Canadian, you would not have the same income/opportunities as native British/Americans/Canadian. If you're a Pakistani who did his early schooling in Pakistan and migrated to US/Canada and have the citizenship, you are still no better than any other Pakistani.
The nationals have some special allowance and added benefits not available to expats and there is a huge difference between the income of a native American/Canadian/Brit and a Pakistani born foreigner.
One of my uncles (holding a green card) wanted to migrate there from Washington and after all his interviews, he swore never to even think about it. He was shocked at the kind of racism he noticed just cz his early schooling was from Pakistan.
Another uncle only made it cz he's got the looks, style, accent, boldness but he always said he preferred it better in Canada so moved back there.
Looks matter alot. If you have good looks, style, boldness, there are chances you would make it but then again it all comes down to where God has written your rizq from.
Kindly dont be charmed. Tax-free income isnt a plus cz it is equal to what you are left with after paying your taxes.
There can be exceptions.......... there can be excetptions but I would say that is just your qismat. Point was just to clarify that life in "Dubai" is not as easy as most people tend to assume.
P.S: "There was a special programme on BBC where they proved with evidences all these points I've mentioned above.

NewWannaBe,
there's no denying that... indeed God is the All-Provider.
However, we should still strive in the path of rizq.
In any case, for me personally, I'm not particularly allured by any specific opportunities - Alhamdullilah, I think I can find a befitting job elsewhere as well, nor is it the tax-free earnings that attracts me. For me, it is the prospect of bringing up a family (i.e. after I get married, have children etc.) in an Islamic country where its easy to balance traditional and progressive values. Being brought up there myself, and subsequently having experienced Pakistan and Canada, I think the Middle East (or certain countries) provide a good nurturing environment for an embryonic moderate Muslim family.
Well, I have come across too many people who tend to assume that Dubai is a place with money and dates lying together under the palm trees for anyone to come and fill their bags with and spend evenings smoking sheesha which is such a stupid illusion. And I have seen quite educated people being blinded by this illusion. So just wanted to state what I did incase any of the readers here needed to know.
A friend of my friend (Bristish born) who is well settled in the UK applied through one of the websites listed above and they showed her "haray baagh" and demanded for a heavy fee for their services. She paid it to and was so crazy to visit their office in Dubai. Finally she came to know that she was being paid 35% less than what she was already earning there AFTER paying the taxes. When she asked the reason, they said it is cz it is tax free. And she did not get as warm a response as she was getting corresponding from UK. It was a call centre job and she wears a big black mask on her face. Yes I agree it even scares me (cz the way she puts it would scre anyone away). But her main motivation to move to this place was same as what you have stated...... A "Muslim" environment.... Her father is an Arab and mother an Indian. So anyway, her "emotional" stimula didnt help her and she was put off by the way stared at her on the roads cz of her face mask. She claimed that no one ever stared at her like that in the UK for dressing up like that.
She got freaked out and has swore never to think of it again.
I know many people who want to get out of the place cz of unfair treatment. It is like falling in a black hole. It is best to let your kids function normally being a part of the society where people respect others for them. Keep in mind if you try to seperate your kids/family from the existing society, they would end up with non-ending complexes. They would feel alienated.
Oh yeah... I have heard that media/movie/show business is taking the lead and the field is progressing alot...... where you grew up was a different place... now it is a different place.... ask anyone.
If you do move I hope you do find the values you are looking for.

Hey guys, Im sorry guess I missed this point. It’s like if you are in Pakistan and want to move to Dubai cz of lack of opportunities in Pakistan or if you are one of those who are not at their best inside Pakistan then sure the place is not bad. Environmentally, it is cleaner than back home… close to Islamabad. And yes, there is a good chance that you may not be bothered by the unfair treatment, etc. cz you would have other positive factors like clean/developed environment, to make you not worry about the rest. Oh I think I can see what Umar Talib was referring to. Well, Umar if you get a good opportunity, nothing wrong with it. :k:
