With da way things are going now...I'd say 5000-7000 dirhams for a decent bachelor life, unless if ur willing to kill ur "nabs" & sacrifice ur worldly desires & save some money...!
Scenario 1
Bachelor - 5000-7000 dirhams.
A nice studio apartment in Dubai - 18000 to 25000 per annum
Utility bills - Electricity, Gas, water, municipal taxes, telephone - Average 1000 dirhams per month
Misc Xpenses - Petrol, car maintenance - 600-800 dirhams
Food - Not more than 1000 dirhams if u know how to cook at home.
^ This is a decent bachelor life for me.
There are people living below that line & they sacrifice a lot of things, just to make it thru da day...!
3000 will only get u thru for da month, & u wont have anything left at da end of da month, if u want a decent life. 5000-7000 makes u save & live...if u intend to keep a family, I'd say double this amount & ur happy in Dubai. But truth is that there are people who have 12000-17000 dhs salary, live lavishly & still dont have money to pay da barber...it depends on how u live ur lifestyle, but I'd say, 5000-7000 is da mean.

Nicely put malik...
he's rite...summarized it really well.
I thought living expenses were paid by the employer? That's how it used to be correct? No anymore?
I really want to go to the Middle East for 3-4 years and work there. But not for fun or anything, strictly to save money. I know this sounds typically Pakistani, but living here in the US, it is hard to save money. But I just graduated college last year with a degree in CS, so not much opportunity for me there.
Also, the idea of owning property in Dubai sounds good, but I have a general distrust of Middle Eastern governments and courts. They are very heavily biased towards their own kind, and if you were to get into a property ownership distpute, then it's very likely that justice will not be served in your favor.

If ur at a managerial position, yes all da utility bills, etc are taken care of by the employer.
Dont put urself in a strange dilemna which has absolutely no sense...unless if ur a criminal......!
The property that ur allowed to own in Dubai is freehold property. Lots of foreigners have invested in it. It was solely built with the foreigner in mind not da local desis or local arabs themselves, but they also enjoy da benefit of owning da property over there...! Do u think that this is Pakistan where some1 would just walk into ur house & take ownership thru false documents or with da help of an AK47...?
You are even allowed to purchase property & lease it short term or long term, which coincidentally is done through legal documents...!
Ive had a brush with da courts of Dubai, & I was treated fairly, & da judge was even kind enough to warn me, & advice me like a son.
mal1k how are the teaching jobs availability in university and colleges specially in Dubai. Is there any Web site for job listings or Web sites for these institutions which are hiring.
Jal_pari, I’m not familiar with any mega-sites for academic positions in Universities, but here are individual job sites for a few universities that I’m familiar with… I’m keeping track of the types of opportunities since I may be applying a couple of years down the road - most of the academic positions require a Ph.D. but a few accept Masters degrees with relevant teaching and corporate experience.
