Career in Pakistan

I’m a uk citizen. Im in the process of completing my final year at university and then my degree will be complete.

I want to move to Lahore to be with the rest of my family but am a bit worries in terms of my career and income.

From the research that i have done it is impossible for me to earn more than 20,000 rps per month. In terms of the family and the household cost i estimate i would need atleast 1 lakh for things to run smoothly.

Ok i understand 20,000 rps is what is expected for any graduate, but in terms of a career when can i expect to earn around 1 lakh or more? i mean will it take 4-5 years or more to earn that amount?

I am a business student and am not aware of the income i can expect after a period of 2 or more years. Roughly i have 4 years to settle down before things become too hectic.

What is the average household income in order to live a pleasent life?

any help will be appreciated thanks.

Re: Career in Pakistan

eh, do your research again

Perhaps, when Allah (swt) wants you to, no? Work hard and leave the reward to your creator. You'll surely get more than what you deserve.

What degree are you doing? Tell us more about yourself, btw, this seems to be your first post here. Did you join the community only to get help with this? Just asking

Re: Career in Pakistan

what degree, what university, and how much work experience you have with what type of company and where would be helpful to know as well.

Re: Career in Pakistan

Hi. Thanx for the replys so far. I have visited this forum many times but only just registered.

My degree is BSc (Hons) Business IT.

The university is Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College.

My work expereince includes 3 years as part time supervisor, colleague training, order processing and general admin.

2 Years of being a part time supervisor and team leader.

Both companies are well known, the first is Asda Superstores which is the sister company of the american Wal-mart.

The second company is Subway.

Again any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Career in Pakistan

I am assuming that the roles you listed were in a retail atmosphere?

I would strongly suggest that you get corporate role after your undergrad for a few years, and then get an MBA from UK and then go back, you would be in a very diff situation career wise.

If you have to go now, I would still suggest getting experience in UK after undergrad, try a major telecom firm, a consulting company, major bank, or CPG or pharma company.

Re: Career in Pakistan

Unfortunatly it is not possible for me to gain experience here in uk before moving to pakistan. The family situation is such that i am needed there after my graduation.

I will be leaving for lahore pakistan on june 2008, therefore i am trying to find the best job oppertunity which can help my family financially, therefore i require a well paid job which is difficult especially straight after graduation.

Re: Career in Pakistan

Okay, I'm a year into the market completed my MBA and BBA in finance with distinction in both the degrees. Since I've been educated in PK so really dont count too much on the distinction : ), but I guess it does give something to add on the CV. What I can tell you from my xp is that fresh grads with sound subject knowledge can get a job from 20 K - 40 K, industry and reference comes into play off course.

How long will it take you to reach anywhere you want to be? That also depends, I studied from a normal uni, I joined the organization in a batch. I was least experienced and had my degree from comparatively less recognized or reputed. I had three promos in a year, which this organization has never seen and on grading scale, higher then all those who're hired in my batch. So there is not hard and fast rule, or at least I'm not aware of. But certainly what Fraudz suggested is most certainly the best way around it, if you can do it.

Re: Career in Pakistan

okay, please dont laugh at me, but how do you PM s'one now :P

Re: Career in Pakistan

Oh, K, I've got it figured out. thanks guys

Re: Career in Pakistan

UK degree do have more value and more chances on interviews with companies in Pak plus you have good english. that goes a long way.

I think your best bet is banks in Pakistan. initially you will get around 20-40 depending on the bank you joined. 4-5 years you will definitely be earning PKR 100K Per month. so dont get over stressed, approach with confidence.

I know one guy who was a grad from (hertfordshire uni)here, worked in LIDL as manager during his studies, he used this experience in CV and interview plus some luck he is area manager with a major bank in pak, earning 75K plus car!

Re: Career in Pakistan

If i start my career as a business developer here in the UK, then after 3 years will it be possible to obtain a very good and well paid job in lahore?

Now i am thinking it might be best for me to start my career here and then move to lahore as an experienced business developer but again im unsure about what type of salary i will then receive.

Re: Career in Pakistan

^^ any experience will help you a lot to attract a right job for you in Pak. in pak

media, banking, telecoms, IT and industry sectors are booming. select a career path and go for it.

uk or us qualified are in high demand in teaching in IT and business studies. a good private institue will also pay you good for few visiting lectures 30 40 K is normal for a part time lecturer in the evening. u can suppliment with this too while you building your career elsewhere. or join full time if you wish. Pak AIMS, FAST, LUMS, UMT and many others in lahore pay well.

Re: Career in Pakistan

Damn it! I'm underpaid, I want 40K from the uni in which I teach. Thats it, I'm going to quit now.

Re: Career in Pakistan

I dont know if this question has yet been answered but I wanted to know wat an new grad makes on an avg in banking field, marketing in particular. By new grad I mean someone who has just finished their MBA in Pakistan. would any of you have an idea?

Naveed1985: as some guppies already mentioned that the fact that you have studied (partly) in UK and that you speak well english will be of help when u apply for jobs in Pk. Like any other place, experience of course counts and helps to get a better job. As for the salaries, as someone mentioned above that u get paid well in IT and teaching certain subjects in uni's or colleges. I knw someone that was wanting to go back to Lahore and ws getting an offer for about 20,000Rs for teaching for I think 3 days a week or something (all I remember is that this pay was for working less than 40hrs, which is considered fulltime here in Canada at least) So im assuming they could have been paid even more if they work more hrs. (not sure if they get paid by the lecture or hours or wat, overthere)

References do count. I was getting a very attractive offer while I was in Lahore last summer. if I tell u the salary here, u guys would for sure think that im bluffing but i couldnt believe myself that i could get paid that much. so see who u know cuz it matters a lot in pk, unfortunately or fortunately.

Re: Career in Pakistan

well I am surprized to know that you are living in UK, have work experience and still looking for Job. What I mean is Job is job either it is 20k or 100K, you still have to be under some bosses.

Why do not you take some courage and work hard upto June and save 1m and start your own IT Training Centre in less competitive place Mureedkay, Gujranwala, Sialkot etc and wihtin a year you will be earning over 100K a month insha allah.

This is what I intend to do, as I am moving back from UK as well in before March insha Allah, and looking to open a School in the morning sessions and afternoon IT Training Centre.

Re: Career in Pakistan

stupid idiot, I don't know about Lahore but you get 20K max for an evening course in Karachi. (perhaps slightly more in some cases). Do some research and then quit. I being the jazbati person that I am did precisely the samething.

Re: Career in Pakistan

good luck naveed!
