car seat in pak

Im thinking of buying a graco carseat (the only two good brands available here are graco and mothercare-i find graco a better choice) how and from where should I get it installed? Sorry I dont know much about carseats since no one uses it here..can someone give me some info regarding it? I remember someone saying that in US/UK they dont let u take the newborn home until a carseat is installed..I was wondering how do u seat a newborn in it:$?

Secondly any advice regarding strollers? When should I buy one? Im sure I wont go out much for the first two months..Would I really need one im so confused:s:(

Re: car seat in pak

Here in the US, Fire Depts can help you install the car seat but my husband did it at home and then one of my co workers (fire fighter) took a look and said it was perfect! just make sure you install it properly for it to be affective!

here is the video that shows you the installation of car seat!

you just put the new born in the seat and buckle him!

you can buy the travel system (if available) so you can use both car seat and stroller together.

There are couple of threads for strollers.. check them out!

Re: car seat in pak

^ Many carseats also have newborn inserts for extra support for babies under 10-11 lbs.

Re: car seat in pak

^oh thats right.. i guess since ours came with one, I never noticed it being any different!

sahr this is the one we have..

Re: car seat in pak

Make sure that you get the one with the base. From what i have seen motsly car seats it pak are sold with out bases and are used as child carriers.

Re: car seat in pak

^Yes.I saw someone using one in their car without a base. They had put it on the rear seat just like that.I failed to see the reason to even use it...!

Re: car seat in pak

i bought this from mother care it was amazing, base i have 2 bought separtely it didnt have it n here mothercare shopkeeper installed car seat for us n it was easily detachable for 6 months v just place the car seat in stroller n used it

Re: car seat in pak

our car seat manual actually shows how to use the car seat wihout a base and we have used it a few times while we took baby in the different car than the one that has the base installed in it. We sued teh shoulder-lap belt as it was shown in the pics and it seemed n felt secure.

We plan to take the car seat with us to Pakistan without the base and thats why I had checked teh manual of the carseat!

I think base is more for convienience than safety because you can just click the car seat in the base whereas without the base you have to spend time getting the right angle and securing it properly.

Re: car seat in pak

^same here.

Re: car seat in pak

That makes perfect sense. The one I saw was where they had a baby strapped in the seat and put it on the back seat without use of any belts. The baby was facing one of the windows instead of facing the seat (rear facing or forward facing).

Re: car seat in pak

^ now wont that be a perfect example of, is saadgi pe kon na mar jaye ae khuda :cb:

Re: car seat in pak

pak cars r so small that a car seat would take whole space. :)

Re: car seat in pak

no i used car seat in pak even in mehran the smallest car :)

Re: car seat in pak

well they take up a space even in the SUV.. you really cant give half a seat to the car seat no matter how big or small the car is!

Re: car seat in pak

saadgi or

saadgi or the obsessive need to use a car seat when hardly anyone uses it and that too in a country where no one even actually wants to stop at the red light…
I might be wrong, but I have found it to be a status symbol more than something for safety in Pakistan.

Re: car seat in pak

Yeah but car seat takes space of 1 seat :)

Re: car seat in pak

awwww dont be a hater... remember your very own GtG might be using the car seat in Pakistan :D

buy you know whats strange.. I have never seen that among my cousins/friends etc even though some fo them are such a show off.. I wonder how did they miss the car seat?

Re: car seat in pak

Wht I have noticed is tht no safety no status symbol it's actually easy instead of carrying in lap n especially when baby becomes more mobile it's difficult 2 handle thts y mostly people r strict

For me I remember I heard about some accident n the baby was in the car 7 month old sitting at front seat wth mum omg they had terrible accident n baby just jumped out of the car n died at the spot at time I decided whether in pak or anywhere else in the world I l make my baby sit in her car seat

This generalization is kinda offensive:(
Anyways we follow the rules because breaking any rule of the present govt(whether good or bad) is gunah plus bribe itself is a gunah..well thats what we follow..
Secondly my husband’s friend recently had an accident in which he and his wife were saved but unfortunately their newborn(who was in mother’s lap) diedsigh
so better be safe than sorry

Come to think of it i havent seen anyone here using it as a status symbol even-i would b glad if they did it may save some lives-but yes iv seen ppl use it as a carrier bcoz except graco carseats others(mothercare/babyshop/local) are without base so ppl dont bothr getting it installed

Re: car seat in pak

^oh my thats terrible.. I am so sorryf or their loss!

and like I said before, check the manual, you may not even need the base to install teh car seat but you can definitely have one so it's just two clicks and you are ready to go.

To install the car seat without the base, the belt has to be in a locked position so check your vehicle for that too.

a little offtopic.. I got some motehrcare stuff from Dubai for my baby and it's adorable.. I wonder if they have such good variety in Pakistan too.. do they? how are the prices?
