...Car Lovers...

I have a question.

My car was flooded due to Hurricane Katrina and the insurance company declared it “totaled”. Now I have to buy a new car and I am thinking of buying a BMW. I know it’s a very expensive car and I was checking out some prices and the thing that surprised me the most is this: Even the BMWs that had close to 100K miles on them were around 18000 - 20000 dollars. I was looking at 2002 and 2003 models. Mostly 3 series. How come they are still priced very high after so many miles but on the other hand Accords etc. lose their value very fast. Is it because BMW engines are SO GOOD that they can perform much more than 100K?

Usually cars start to die and to give problems after 100K but do BMWs not? How long usually do they drive before they start giving problems? Any advises which series to buy and what to look out for?

Re: …Car Lovers…

awwww I am so sorry shikki :flower1:
an old car is like an old friend - you miss it when its no more :frowning:

Re: …Car Lovers…

You are right. See we had 4 cars. Everytime we evacuated due to Hurricane threat, we ALWAYS took my car and one brother’s car and left dad and other brother’s car behind. But this time dad took both brothers’ cars and left mine behind. And look what happened :teary1: I loved it and all of my friends were jealous of me having that car and they also loved it. Bechaari ko nazar lagg gayi.

Re: ...Car Lovers...

for info on cars, you may want to check parkers.co.uk or whatcar.co.uk, comprehensive info on all makes and models...

has for you considering byuying a bmw... many factors should be taken into account, practyicality, insurance group, performance.... and reason BMW'a are generally expenisve, is 1. they hold their value beacuse there engines last for ages, if serviced on time and 2. their performace is up there with there close rivals mercedes.

Re: ...Car Lovers...

it's cuz of the name...BMW...very presitgious.
The BMW i like is the M3..but according to what u said in your post...perhaps that will be out of ur price range. In my opinion...dont get anything less than a BMW 330. You'll be better off with an accord if you get anything less than the 330 because it will drive like an accord and you'll end up paying a hefty price only cuz of its name.

Re: ...Car Lovers...

oh...also keep in mind...if u get a BWM maintenance on it is more expensive than a honda or toyota.

Re: ...Car Lovers...

hmmm..........thanks both of you for the advice. I don't know much about series. I guess it's just like "models"?

What other cars do you recommend? I am also looking for navigation system in it, who else has them?

Re: …Car Lovers…

maddy is a car expert - take his advice
but then he is a die hard VOLVO fan :smack:
He will say get a VOLVO or a CIVIC (his old car back in the UK)

Re: …Car Lovers…

cant you navigate on your own
only old stupid and foolish people have navigation systems
those who dont know where they are going :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: …Car Lovers…

yea…the “series” is like “models”. However the thing about BMWs is that the series also tells you how big the engine is…like the 330 is a 3.0 liter engine and the 328 is a 2.8 liter engine…etc.

most cars these days have a navigation system in them. Are u looking for new or used? and what is your price range?

Re: …Car Lovers…

^ OH cool. I didn’t know about this engine trick. My price range is I guess 20,000 dollars. I don’t need a brand new car as I don’t feel like paying so much for the insurance. 2002-2003 modes should do for me.

Volvo is also nice. Civic is just too small :frusty: One can go to an Accord from a Civic but can’t go back to Civic from an Accord. I can navigate on my own but it’s something cool and I would just like to have it for the heck of it.

Re: …Car Lovers…

navigation systems also tell u the nearest gas stations, restaurants, parks, movie theatres etc.

Re: …Car Lovers…

everytime i think of volvo i think of white american yuppies.

Re: ...Car Lovers...

everytime i think of VOLVO.. i think of pete's OVLOV.

Re: ...Car Lovers...

BMWs are not as reliable as Hondas, Toyotas, etc.

Especially newer BMWs, they often have electrical systems problems. My dad sold our 1994 BMW 520 in 2002, and by then some of the windows and central locking were not working.

All that said, there is one reason why BMWs depreciate slowly - desireability

BMWs are the best driving cars out there, due to their smooth inline 6 cylinder engines, rear-wheel drive, and 50:50 front:rear weight distribution. Every BMW handles like a sport car when you throw it around. They make the person behind the wheel feel great.

There are a lot of people (mainly non-desi) who value the "fun and sexy" factor of a car more than reliability, and so BMWs hold their value extremely well.

The best trade of of value-for-money and reliability will always be a Japanese car. And to be honest, it's just a matter of personal preference.

The first car I bought in the UK was a brand new Honda Civic, because I wanted that value for money and reliability blend. And it was a terrific car. It just so happened that when I came to Canada, I wanted a luxury sport sedan with European styling instead, so after considering 3 year old BMWs, Audis and Volvos, I picked the Volvo.

Re: …Car Lovers…

Get an old Suzuki Alto. The one i have is worth around 1.3K - 1.4K. It can run around 60 m/h but works best at 40/45 m/h :o. It gives u around 10 miles in a one litre of octane :smooth: and it only cost around 10/15 dollar maintenance every 3/4 month.

:bravo:

Re: …Car Lovers…

I forgot to mention, in 20K u can buy 20 of such cars, imagine u will drive a diffrent car to ur work/college every day almost whole month :o

:bravo:

Re: ...Car Lovers...

I know how to spell ''a car'' and I know how to get in one and I know how to gwet out of one but thats about it.
