Winning or losing may be a mere chance in the game of cricket but one should note if there is a game plan when a team is playing in a volatile game such as cricket. To me, Pakistan Captain strategy is too rigit and it doesnt change during the course of the match.
If u see last match with Australia, he didnt changed batting order resulting in our best batsman in form Omar Akmal having merely 1-2 overs to play and hard hitting Rana Naveed the same. pakistan should sent ahrd hitting batsman with a consolidator whenever the need arises. Using batting side peowerplay is also a great trick.. he never uses is early even Pakistan has few wickets to play with.
There are numerous other mistakes that he makes that needs to be avoided to make pakistan cricket time more reliable. Hopefully, they beat New Zealand today.
I agree with Degas, he just stick to the plan and does not change them to suit the situation, he himself is not fit or in form but he insist to come at one down position and that when power play is on, result was against india we scored 3 runs in 5 overs and against australia we did almost the same... luckily against india we won, but against Australia we paid the price, it was just those few overs when ball was hard and easy to play compare to the later overs in the innings...
His captaincy was pathetic today, team selection was biased, overall strategy was just clueless. Botched the batting approach, had no idea what to do with power plays, fielders all in the wrong places, atrocious bowling changes (rana anyone?).
And if flopping consistently with the bat wasn't enough, dropped a shocker of a catch which quite simply ended the match. Pretty hard to get respect from the team after a performance like that. Compare to Vettori and Ponting's performances in the semis.........
His decisions today were pretty pathetic. But I like him as a captain. He might not b in form but the players like him and respect him and thats important as well. Though, the dropped catch cannot be forgiven!
I know that it is important that you do not come down on your players when things are going wrong. But the amount of no balls and pathetic bowling by Rana deserved some harsh words or two from Younis. You have to make your players responsible. Like, hey, this is your time. We are depending on you. Dont let us down. But nooo, I didnt even see him talking to Rana.
was def a bad captaincy day, but he should not be sacked.
quite honestly, he surprised me in the match against Australia after not tightening the field around the batsmen when singles needed to be stopped. I still remember a test match where India was slated to win and Younis took over as skipper for half the day's proceedings and it was his field placements that won Pakistan the match. I was expecting to see a similar Younis in the last eight to ten overs of the Aus innings but was disappointed.
In today's match, he also lacked vibrancy in the field.
freaking idiots. Unthankful. He is a very good captain. Your chief rivals in India are asking Dhoni to learn from him but as usual you fools don't see it.
He is out of form, no doubt. But his captaincy was the best it could be, in hindsight you could argue Younis Khan should have come in at #3, Afridi should have opened, Yousef shouldn't have played and Naveed has no reason to play. He almost won you a match being 70runs short from batting side. Then his team fought until the end against Australia.
Also we were probably ahead until the power play when Rana gave 2 no-balls one over. Can blame him for picking Naveed but not the no balls.

That being said, he can't be sacked just yet.
How? I saw the whole match and did not feel that he lacked intensity at any stage. Given the situation of pak-nz match, setting field in the last poweplay was a tough task for any captain and he took his time but his intensity seemed to be there. Any anecdotal evidences would help.
And I thought he did pretty well against Aus. Aus needed very few runs and there needed to be a balanced field so that they do not score crucial boundaries or 2s or 3s easily. So he needed some fielders outside the circle as well. I think he set the fielding really beautifully and that is the only reason why the match went to the last ball.
Younis has done so much for the Pakistani cricket in last 5 years but Pakistanis seem to dislike him for whatever reason. Ever since he scored second innings century against sri-lanka in karachi and then 260 against India in India, he has not looked back but no matter how much he scores for pak, his head is always under fire after couple of failures.
he is not even a good player. he hasn't scored any runs in the CT plus he dropped that critical catch.
pakistan is not so bad when it comes to bowling. mohammad asif and aamir are pretty decent opening bowlers. shahid afridi and ajmal are pretty decent spinners and gul is not a bad 5th bowler. we just need two good batsman. younis and imran nazir needs to go
*People are constantly making comments to drop Younis/Yousuf/Malik/Misbah .....
But can any 1 suggest who shud replace them ??
Fawad Alam ?? Bazid Khan ??

His position in the team is under question mainly for ODIs.

I wonder why did you not asked this question to yourself before opening the thread about Yousuf? who is at least making runs (ok slow as per your standards). Yousuf has done far more for Pakistani cricket than Younus :)
Having said that, I believe younus is a good batsman and is just out of form and as of today is in the team because he is a captain !

good question and I have already answered it...yousaf is already in good form and therefore, it makes sense to look into his approach...younis is simply out of form, plus yousaf will play a bigger role (strategically speaking) in our batting in the coming year...so it is very important for him to make some twists to his approach...that is all.
