I want to upgrade from my Canon S200 (I love that camera as it produce amazing results.. only the zoom is my worry.. I have tried 4-8 Mpixel cameras but was not satisfied) I heard Canon 5.0 MP PowerShot S2 IS Digital Camera w/ 12x Optical Zoom is good..has anyone tried it.. or give me better choice.. as most of u know I am in Pakistan now and some one has to buy and bring that to me.. so not much choice in time..

What a coincidence! I own Powershot S200 too and I just ordered S2 IS. It hasn't arrived yet though so I don't have any personal experience...

Degas, although I haven’t used that camera but the specs are pretty hot, the reviews are excellent too.
One thing against it is that it doesn’t come with any rechargeable batteries.

I have a 2.3 MP and I am happy with it. I am not sure how much better results will I get if I upgrade it to 5 or so. Mainly because doesn’t the printing machine the resolution bottle neck?

AJ, printing full page with a pic from a 2.3 mpx is world's apart from a pic in 5 mpx res. If you are just going to use thumbnails or web-type graphics then it wouldn't matter.

Ermmm I duno.. my camera taeks FOREVER to take a pic, not to mention the oft-crappy quality 
But I think its mor emy technique rather than the camera itsself, even though before it used to take decent pix.. :hinna:

Yes.. but that is about 300dpi for the Frontiers (Fuji) or 320 for the Noritsus. And if u print at home, they are even higher.
Going to at least a 4MP will definitely improve your results. Not to mention the 2.3MP models are older technology, and newer ones are faster for about the same price or even less!

I have used this camera once and its pretty kool if the price is right.

The S3 doesn't have all that much over S2, besides the extra mega-pixel, but the price is about $150 more. I wouldn't recommend it.

Sara, that's a very subjective question. For a point & shoot camera there's tons of options, it all depends on brand preference, the level of learning you're willing to put in, ease of use and your budget. A few mths ago I bought the Canon SD450, which is very cute looking little camera, 5 megapixel and takes great pictures (check my My UK Visit thread in Travel for results). I picked it up for less than $250 (another member of GS paid a $100 more for the same model 2 weeks before I bought mine :p ).
Best thing to do is stop by the nearest Best Buy and pick up the various models they have and see which appeals to you, then go to the internet and order it there.:)

Ifeel my camera (SONY W-1) is too old n clunky n obsolete 
I saw a nice Canon camera frm Walmart.. 2.7 LCD, 5 some Megapixels, only 249 or so.. i’m surprised how cheap cameras are.. the SONY i bought it August 2004, for $379 :no: another problem with sony camera is that it takes forever to take a pic now n rarely does it take ya gud quality foto nowadays.. i havent fiddled with t settings though..But I dunno what I’d do with the sony if i got a new one :hinna:

And about the pictures taking forever writing to card, you have to play with the settings. Pehaps someone else has changed some settings? Try resetting everything to 'auto mode'. I think your camera will do just fine :D
