SO let’s say you’ve arranged the perfect wedding and you find out just days before the big day that your fiance or fiancee lied to you about their educational status, would you cancel the wedding plans?
Would you delay, or cancel?

Re: Canceling a Wedding
Uh oh.. I'd tell my sister to punch her in the face.
In short cancel.
Re: Canceling a Wedding
it depends, do you mean it turns out he doesn't really have a degree or he's actually the prince of genovia?
Re: Canceling a Wedding
^^ Well he lied that he has a masters degree in such and such. He's doing well for himself but doesn't have the degree.
Re: Canceling a Wedding
I wont trust a person who is starting a new life with a lie, and that also of such importance. I dont mind if someone lies about their weight, height or even age - but education is a big thing.
Re: Canceling a Wedding
^
A lie is a lie no matter what!
If you cant tell your potential spouse the truth who can you tell?
Re: Canceling a Wedding
Age - what do you think of a guy or a guy’s family telling the girl’s family that he is 38-39 and he’s really 46. Is that a big enough lie ![]()
Re: Canceling a Wedding
I wanted to put (+/- 2 years) in front of age. Off course its always minus in our culture and never plus (un but a couple of years here and there can be ignored .. but calling a 46 years old guy, 38 or 39 is not a lie, its a dhokaa ..
Re: Canceling a Wedding
^ LOL! Yes, my mother always says Pakistani logoN ki kehay huway um'r mai kam-as-kam 2 saal aur to jor hi lo :D
Re: Canceling a Wedding
I'd cancel....! especially if it happened to me as education is a big thing...i recently broke things of with my fiance as he lied about his education level...he said he had done an MBA in truth he was still doing an undergrad course....stil don't understand why he lied....but fact is he lied!

naah, every lie should not be taken to that seriousness. Sometimes larke walay/larkee walay hide some truth to save the face and the intention is not to do any dhoka/fraud. Like for instance, if larkee ke abba was a clerk in govt office and they say ke abbu was a govt officer, is that really a lie? I think not.
Re: Canceling a Wedding
And that brings me to the age thingie…what’s with lying about the age…it’s not like the spouse isn’t going to find out about it eventually ![]()
Re: Canceling a Wedding
That is a typical desi mentality .. that is ‘oos waqt kee oos waqt dekhi jaa’ye gee, abhee to jhoot bol ke kaam nikal waalo’
Re: Canceling a Wedding
Yeah...they are too much into the now moment.

I'm sorry but you can't compare the job of the potential FIL with age etc. End of the day he is marrying her not his FIL.
Re: Canceling a Wedding
^ You said, 'a lie is a lie no matter what'. I was replying to that. Now you started comparing 2 lies and in fact supporting my argument that every lie is not a serious lie.

I said it in context in telling a lie about age/education to the one you're going to marry. NOT her dad and about using a very subjective thing such as government clerk or officer. Which in turn could mean the same thing.
Understand brother TLK?
Re: Canceling a Wedding
Wedding would be off.
One thing I have learned is that when people ignore warning signs...it usually comes back to bite them later on...guaranteed. Dishonesty doesnt go away and if you forgive once then you are also a part of the lie...you are now an enabler.
Having disagreements as a couple are growing pains.
Lying is a warning sign and unacceptable.
Re: Canceling a Wedding
I personally wouldnt wanna be with someone who started our new life with a lie.. That's a total no-no! Be thankful that u found out now and not later...
