Re: Canada
Only think they’d have on me is my brown skin and Muslim name. Thats it. That seems to be enough now days for the police to shoot you in the UK.
So you guys have had generally pleasant experiences of Canada.

Re: Canada
I am hoping to establish or get access to some sort of funds here prior to any move in my middle 20’s (say 3 years from now) to Canada, but the UK is far too expensive.
I was thinking Ottawa. Plus the UK is too hot now in summers. I get heat rash and sunburn and stuff. ![]()
Re: Canada
It's hotter here in the summers.....but most places have some kind of a/c unlike UK.
You would find Ottawa extremely boring if coming from London.
Re: Canada
Bordem is fixed with a nice group of friends. The locale isnt that important. Importantly, I'd find it affordable.
Re: Canada
I see the prices in Ottawa property, and my eyes light up. 4/5 bedroom homes for $350,000 Canadian. Thats about ~ £170,000....hella cheap!
Yeah if only you can pay that mortgage driving a cab or maning the counter on the kwiky mart....
There are actual websites of immigrants in Canada, who are cautioning other immigrants of makingthe same mistake...there is even a picture of Pakistani Phd, driving a CAB in Toronto...
Re: Canada
toronto has like 750K muslims!! that's huge..how the fcuk do u guys get discriminated aganist. I can understand if there are like 1K muslims among a million hillbilly crackers...but with a strength of 750K people??
grow some balls or shut your whining up.
Re: Canada
I wasnt whining.
There surely is a difference in opps for someone with qualifications from the Uk as opposed to Pakistan.
I should have an MA within 1 academic year, insha-allah.
I'm hoping that gives me options.
Re: Canada
legbreakgoogly, for someone who doesnt want to live in the areas with blacks or to teach their kids (from your posts in C&A) if you were to move to the USA, i am surprised you are worried about racism yourself!
Re: Canada
As a US permanent resident who travels to Canada frequently on work (and also to Europe a few times a year) I really enjoy visiting Canada and spending time there - except for the airport staff, the rudest bunch of government sadists anywhere in the world. Having US papers is tantamount to being treated like a criminal there - and no, I have never had a problem in the US since I came here despite having a beard and being dark skinned. I have never endured any racism from common people in either country.
The whole thing about jobs being scarce in Canada is a myth if someone is professionally qualified. There are stories of PhDs working as cab drivers and pizza salesmen in the USA also, and there undoubtedly are such stories in Europe or any other part of the world you care to look at. Unemployment in the USA is at record levels at the moment as well and it is not likely to get better - where Canada scores over the USA is in the social welfare system. Also, even though people sometimes grumble about higher taxes in Canada, the fact is that Canadians don’t pay medical insurance at all. Factor in all of the benefits and someone who chooses the US to Canada today is making a bad mistake.
For someone who wishes to move, there is a Canadian government website that gives considerable information www.cic.gc.ca Please remember that with less than 40 million people Canada needs immigrants and the points system would tell you what your chances are of getting a job - the higher the points the better your chances.
Good luck!
Re: Canada

I have found racism to be strongest amongst people of color. Black on black and how dark or not so dark one is. I have found the experience also of people bring hatred from their countries of origin to here.
As I said , there is much racism between people of color than I have ever seen between whites and colored people in north america. Of course you get the odd stupid and parts of southern USA has lots of stupids. But , it truly makes you shake your head in awe when one automatically thinks racism means between white and black and see it between blacks much more so!!!
Re: Canada
I cant recall making any kind of statements like that Ira. But lets assume I did, if I ever moved to the USA (nothing against America, far from it, but the populace seems grossly ignorant, and those Americans I have met (its many) tend to reinforce that opinion) , it would probably be to a smaller state, with lower crime. My choice is New Hampshire.
Check the ethnic composition of that state out. ![]()
So Canada, I know it wants immigrants. I am skilled labour, moreso within 18 months, Insha-Allah, that should boost my chances.

Re: Canada
You seem to have changed your mind within a year of how ignorant the whole American population is as compared to blacks only last year. Just to refresh your mind, following is the link of your thread that i vividly remember in C&A. Please check out your posts no. 9 and 14. I dont know about where you live but in the USA, we call this type of behaviour racism ![]()

Re: Canada
My stated then that my distaste was only for "gangster" types, of any background. Same applies now.
Moreover that thread is some 18 months old, my views have changed.
The average American does come across as pretty thick.
Re: Canada
Don't wear a durag, aunt jemama gave it up 20 years ago after selling all that syrup. Don't join a club if its called Crips or Bloods or other idiotic ones where the I.D is the gun and the bullet the business card. And don't go around wearing pants made for an obese person if you are slim.
And assimilate , you have a better chance at a happier , prosperous life instead of living in a mini version of whereever most people come from to leave strife behind but unfortunately bring the war.
Some knowledge of hockey and football will get you conversation but leave the gospel, bible thumping and other such preachings at home or at your holy place of worship and not on the street.
Use rubbish bins not the earth's ground.
For gosh sakes learn how to swim if you don't know and wear a life jacket when in a boat. Many lakes in Canada! should be enough for now, if I think anymore regarding canada I will let you know as I have friends over there and I visit often and I have yet to be hassled by customs.
Re: Canada
Field hockey and football, or ice hockey and soccer?
No chance of bible thumbing. I'm a very non practising Muslim, not adverse to sin or haram. :D
I am well assimilated. :)
Seriously, it seems a cool place.
Re: Canada
If you think you can avoid blacks or any people of color here, don’t come because you will be disappointed. Really.
Re: Canada
I am a person of colour. I dont want to avoid anyone, just looking for a cheaper alternative to the UK.
Re: Canada
Maddy & Ahmed Ji:
No work in Canada? Well maybe they came from Toronto. Alberta has a lot of job openings now a days, specially Calgary. Obviously where there is tons of population it would be hard for people to find a job there (like Toronto or Vancouver).
